Need some help
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, November 21, 2004 8:06 AM
Hi,

I got a few questions and hopefully somebody out there can help me.

1. How do I paint the interior of american WW2 open top vehicles like the M8 Howitzer? I got the Tamiya kit, but the manual is in japanese.

2. What size of guitar wire do I use for antennas on 1/35 tanks?

3. Are german DAK uniforms khaki or more sand color?

And last but not least Is there a kit of the german Leopard Bergepanzer available.

I know these are queations covering different areas, but maybe some of you guys know all the answers.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Joe, it's my understanding U.S. open topped vehicles had their interiors painted to match the outside of the vehicle. I like to use the smallest string on the guitar for my antennas, but the one next up in size will work also. (I get mine from a nephew when he breaks them so I get what he has). I'll leave the other questions to those who know.

Joe, here's an M8 I did, one of the pics is the top view. Hope it helps....... (and I fixed the track colors, rubber pads, not steel)

If you want directions in English, I may still have mine. Just email me with your adress, but I gotta look around first.

SORRY the top view pic is a little blurry, but hope you can see it enough

Joe, first of all, the only M8 i know of isnt a howitzer, its an armored car with im guessing a 37mm cannon. its got six wheels and an open top turret. much of the time, tanks and AFV's were painted white inside to help in illumination. ive seen an M8 or two, with the interior painted white like this. i cant say for halftracks or some german vehicles, but my guess there is that they were painted the general exterior color.

for vehicle antennas, i believe i use a size E. its wrapped in smaller wire, so you'll have to unwrap it, or simply cut it off. dont worry its not as difficult as it sounds. just unwrap what you'll need and that's it.

as for the german uniforms, in what theatre are we talking about here?? north africa? german camo patterns?? africa i think yu could get away with either a khaki or a sand color. the adverse affects of the heat and sun on the uniforms would fade the colors rather quickly, along with the dirt and dust of the desert.

i dont normally build modern AFV's so i cant help you witht he leopard bergepanzer question.

hope it helps. have fun...

#1-not sure what youre looking for here, but heres how other people did it. http://www.missing-lynx.com/gallery/usa/tam8.htm

#2 guitar strings- if you play guitar, just use the tops after you restring and trim them, as the ends are unwrapped. If not, go to the guitar shop and ask them for their trimmed ends, Ive never had to do this as I break strings all the time, but Im sure they will give you more than you could ever use. basically, use the ones that you think look right. the medium gauge ones usually work better as they arent so droopy, but not too thick either.
#3- here is a page all about the DAK http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-uniforms/afrika_korps.htm
and finally, http://www.redlancers.com/displaypic.asp?item=6494&hot= the price seems a little steep for my taste, but hey if its what youre looking for...

Hello!
I too, have been looking for a Leopard Bergepanzer , the only ones I found in were the Roco Minitanks Series, they are 1/87 , and I build in 1/35. I have an old " Model Fan" magazine , from Germany, that has an artical on how to convert an Italeri Leopard , into a Bergepanzer. It features 1/35 scale templates , for the salient features , ( IE hull superstructure , and the crane ),but the text is in German . I have access to a scanner , so if you are interested , I can send it to you. If ARV's are your " Bag" , the only one's I know about are the AFV Club M-88 ( Great kit) ,Revell Germany offers a M-88 ( I think), the Italeri M-32 , and Panther Bergepanzer, all 1/35. Academy offers a M-113 Fitter's vehicle. These are all plastic , but no doubt others available in resin.

Well, I know that all of the open topped U.S. TD's were painted OD on the interior of the turret.
For antennas i like to use streched sprue. It saves me some money.
The Afrika Korps uniforms were more of a sand color from the pics that i have seen.
Take a look at this site.

strathcona,

I can translate the articel since I am a german in Iowa. My e-mail is tomcat3252000@yahoo.de. I prefer 1/35 after ww2 to build, with an occasinal ww2 armor, or an aircraft and I am going to try some cars I won in a raffle. I found a company in germany that makes a Leopard2 A5/A6 engine in resinI am thinking on buying, even if it is about $80 incl. shipping. Would make a great diorama with a Berge-Leo.

Thank you guys,

you all were a great help as always. Maybe one day I have enough experience collected that I can be of someone help. My wife bought me some guitar string that I try on my Trumpeter Osorio and the Tamiya Gepard. They are not my best models but they are good for practice. Again, thank a lot for your help.

I seem to recall someone mentioning to me before that all US open-topped vehicles were painted white on the inside of the hull, and same colour as the exterior in the turret.

As rebel, I like to use stretched sprue for antennae wires. It works great, and is cheap! Big Smile [:D]
