Sherman hull stumper.

I am unable to identify a M4 Sherman upper hull I picked up in an armor model parts lot a few years back. It is a resin hull, but I do not know the manufacturer. The upper hull has the dimensions matching a Tamiya M4A3 hull, but the details do not match. It has the large hatches for the driver and co-driver (like the M4A3), but the rear engine deck is like that for the M4 radial engine. I have been searching my reference library and the internet, but I am unable to find any Shermans with these specifications. I would appreciate any input on this puzzle.

It's possible it's an M4A2 with 47 degree glacis. Really hard to tell without a photo to compare to some references.

Hi sewelja,
First welcome to the board.
The hull might be one that was used on an M4 105mm.
I never understood why the M-4 late used the composite hull but looking through the Hunnicutt book I've seen pictires of M4's that used the M-4-A3 car body, but had the 105mm mounted in the turret.
Not sure that this is the answer, but hope it may give you a clue as to what to search for or maybe provide a lead that some one else can follow through on and help you out.
Regards,
Joe

Thanks Joe. After looking for M4 105mm Shermans, I found resin conversion hulls that match the one I have. In the particular, the MR Models M4 105 conversion hull illustrates what I was referring to.

Contact me offsite if you'd like a M4 105mm turret conversion part. I have one laying around that I won't use.

Hi sewelja,
Well, glad that my hunch was able to help you out. I'm so use to getting help from the great people on this board it's rather nice to be of some assitance for a change.
Regards,
Joe
