You know me and building, Brian. I haven't built or even started either kit, yet. Working on my DML Pz IV J and Accurate Miniatures Dauntless for the most part. Looking real hard at the Tamiya Ketten, though.

I've got an OLD Monogram 1/48 Pz IV that could go with it. (Un built, of course!!) It has a "How to do a Diorama" booklet with it by Cookie Seawell. It comes with extra pieces of (plastic) shurzen that have artilery shell holes moulded into them. But if any shell that big ever punched through one of them, the shurzen wouldn't have done much to save the tank!!

How's the weather over there across the pond this time of year??
Have a great day.

Howdy, Bill! Haven't "seen" ya in a while!
The B-36? Found it on a site somewhere, thought it was cool! I recently picked up the 1/144 Hobby Craft B-36D, and thought I'd mix things up a bit with the sigs. Don't worry; although I pretty much build everything, I'll always be a plates 'n' trax boy at heart!

Have you started on your E-100?

And to keep this on topic, did you build your Kettenkraftrad with Goliath?
The one I got was just the K-trad, as a bagged kit. And I bought it at the Tamiya head office in Shizuoka! Maybe that's why it was so dang cheap. No shipping charges involved!Wink [;)]

The 1/48 Tamiya with the Goliath and equipment trailer goes for about $15 retail over here. I got one for my birthday. Nice kit!!

I haven't seen the 1/35 Tamiya version, but as Major Rob said, the 1/48 version is excellent.
The tracks, sprockets, and inner road wheels are molded as one-piece affairs, to which you add the outer road wheels, producing a very authentic look. The kit comes with a supersharp figure of the driver (rider?), too.

All for 300 yen (about $2.85 USD)!Big Smile [:D]

Dragon's Kettenkraftrad kit is a fun kit to build but I strongly recommend using a magnifier if you don't have one. The kit comes with nearly 300 parts and the vast majority of those are for the tracks. It has indys that consist of two track links and a cap block. The cap blocks are 1mm wide and the track links are 2mm wide, just to give you an idea. There are no major challenges with the parts and it has a suprisingly detailed little engine and the option to make the hatch cover workable for display if you are so inclined.

I've got pics up on my website at http://www.bpmodels.net/Web/Gallery4.htm . Final build without the Puppchen is 4" in length.

Ahh yes, my ole friend the KettenKrap. That kit has to be the biggest pain I have ever done. The tracks are a minor problem, there are some fit problems with other pieces, not like there are to many pieces to begin with. That and trying to paint the front wheel with it molded onto the front forks.

yeah, and i guess it'll go on the shelf and wait for the day when the model stock is depleted and there's nothing left to build..........

Hmm, I wish I had heard the bad things before. I bought a couple of Tamiya kits off a guy on the net last year, and one of them was this same kettenkraftrad kit. I was pretty surprised to see the single moulding of wheels and tracks, but what are ya gonna do. The small size of the vehicle should make it easier to hide the crappyness of the kit.

I heard the Dragon kit is pretty difficult, and has a lot of parts for its size, but once finished is very nice. Check Out FSM review, its available online.

Ive heard so much bad stuff about this model, that, I think I should get one just so i can complainWink [;)]

There's an old Nitto kit that is worse than the old Tamiya kit. Almost unbuildable.

The latest Tamiya 1/48 scale one also has one piece tracks, but the kit is really nice.

Yeah, I wanted that kit many years ago and noticed the one-piece wheels and tracks. Yuck. On the upside it would be an easier assembly than Dragon's. I'd still go for Dragon's with the better molding and indy tracks.

Early Kettenkraftrad kit
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 22, 2004 8:23 PM
I got this Kettenkraftrad kit in the mail today (thank god I didn't pay much for it).... and I noticed the tracks are each a molded plastic piece with the wheels....... I almost laughed. is this just the early tamiya kit? I know there's a dragon kit.

I just don't see how this kit could end up looking realistic. anyone ever built it?
