Jagdpanzer IV/70(A) mesh schurtzen
Posted by JWest21 on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 7:01 PM
I just got back from the LHS and picked up a Dragon 1/35th Jagdpanzer IV. It has the mesh screens for schurzen, which I had never done. Well, the kit part is just that plastic mesh that you have to cut (and looks too thick). Anyone have any ideas where I can find some PE replacements? Greatmodels and Squadron don't seem to have anything, but it appears Eduard makes it. Thanks

They are the pieces of thin metal or wire mesh added to tanks to protect against hollow charge anti-tank weapons. This Jagdpanther has them http://jasonwest7529.fotopic.net/c307100.html and so does this Pz III I did

That's them! This one has wire screens, which were found to be as effective but much lighter. I have never done one with mesh screens and I have never done a Jagdpanzer IV, so this was a must buy. It's scary though- there are 615 parts. Free sedatives should be included

1/35 ed35310 Jagdpanzer IV/70 Mesh Shield

They are called Thoma sheilds and most late war Pz Ivs and Jagdpanzer had them. Eduard makes a nice set for $20.

Great Models has a beautiful set for the IV J Late (hull only). Since the hulls should be the same, or very similar, you should be able to use them. They are pricey, though, at about $30. If you want to see what the brackets look like, take a peek over at the IV group build, on page 18, near the bottom. I posted a couple of pics of the left side of my IV after I mounted the brackets.

Good luck
