Tamiya M1A2 and M2A2 OIF Kits [}:)]

Hey all,

I was just at Hobby Lobby and saw the M1A2 and M2A2 OIF kits from Tamiya. The prices, of course were ridiculous. What I'm wondering is why the almost $15 price increase from the previous issues? Is there an interior in the M2A2? Does the CITV on the[ M1A2 really work? Come on, is anyone else as miffed about this as I am? So you get a few extra parts, $45 for an Abrams without an interior is ridiculous. Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]

Well, for the first time ever, an Abrams kit contains all the necessary parts to make either an M1A2, M1A1HA (USMC) or M1A1HA (US Army). The turret is entirely new and the hull has some retooling. The tracks are new as well.

If you bought a decent aftermarket upgrade OIF set to add to either kit, you'd probably pay over $15. Not that I'm defending the high prices, I'm just trying to put it into perspective.

Yup, I agree. I hate how Tamiya thinks they can just jack the prices up on their new kit with just a few added parts on an extra sprue or two. I especially agree about the M2A2 ODS, the interior with added bench seats would have been easy to include and a nice addition. Wait a couple of years and the price will come down, joy, joy.

keep a watch out for online deals. Greatmodels had their tanks at 40% off a week or to ago. They are pricy, but nice kits

I got both of those kits from Hobby Lobby at the 50% off sale. While the M2A2 was a disappointment, for $20 the M1A2 was a real nice kit. I really like the clear lenses that the Abrams comes with. In fact, I liked the M1A2 so much that I bought 2!! I also got an extra T-55 at the sale.

I am tell'n ya, wait for the HL sale!

Thanks for the info Major Rob, I may get that M1A2 after all.... when the next 50% off coupon comes around! Still, its good to know that Tamiya went the extra mile and did a new turret. Have they put non-skid on the hull?

No, turret is still smooth. Here is a full review of the kit: http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/tamiya/tam35269.htm

It is a good kit with all the M1A1/A2 versions being able to be built. I still think it is too expensive.

I wish there was Hobby Lobby out here in CA. I loved it when I lived in TX, OK, and KS. Man I get bummed every time I hear about their 50% off sales.
