Posted by NEW MEX on Saturday, November 27, 2004 9:28 PM
I know this should be under techs but nobody has been there since 11/19 and i need an answere quick. what is the thinning ratio for Dullcoat and thinner. both the thinner and the Dullcoat bottles did not have mix ratios on them, so i'm lost on this one. thanks for any help.

I don't know what the exact ratio is, but I usually thin my Dullcote with thinner. The ratio usually ends up being about 90% dullcote to 10% thinner. Sometimes it's in the 85-15 range. I haven't had any problems with either of these ratios. HTH.

new mex, it helps id we know what kind of dullcoat your using. Different companies need different ratios, and what are you using to thin? with testors Dullcoat laquer I use a regular home depot type laquer thinner at 50/50

I thin Dull-cote with an automotive lacquer thinner, PP&G's Duracryl DTL 876, at about 50-50 ratio.

Thanks Awood23, now i am confussed. i'm using Testors Dullcoat and i've heard 80/20, 90/10,and now 50/50. i guess i'll use try each ratio on one of my junk models and see which one works best. thanks again everybody

if you want a super flat coat, thin it heavily, and apply it in light mist coats. I'd say 50/50 is good to start
