Been working on my Tamiya King Tiger. Couple of observations. The Tamiya putty recommended, the large tube and the small green tube seem to work well. They spread very well, the problem is, I have run out of the green accelerant far before the white putty. I assume I used too much, but, they don't give any clue on the instructions of the package I forked over 12 bucks for. I am a Tamiya fan but they screwed me this time.
Anyway, I put on the putty and it really did spread very nicely. The only difficulty of course were in tight areas, especually when there were rounded edges and so forth. Not having the Tamiya Zimmerit tool, I simply made my impressions with a credit card, finme toothed saw and toothpick when needed. It looks very ragged and worn, so, obviouulsy the finished product is going to be a weathered tank coming off the battl;e field, not from the factory. Anyway, I had to laugh, I showed the Zimmerit job to my 20 year old son who is an artist. He is always very helpful but critical. He says stuff like, "Umm, looks like a plastic plane" when I haven't done a good job of weathering and so forth. Anyway, I showed him the rough scaly pattern I did and he said, "Wow, looks good, I guess the germans had credit cards in the field when they applied their Zimmerit, heh Dad?". I wanted to punch his lights out but he is bigger and faster. So, this will be our secret cause my girls thnk it looks cool, so do I. Now for the paint job. He thinks he is so good because he won a gold medal for a tank when he was 12. I didn't want to burst his bubble but it doesn't come close to my recently finished Sherman.
Have a good day.
