Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, December 2, 2004 2:11 AM
Hey guys , just wondering if anyone has built any kits from these folks they have a good collection of modern kits , and Im sure the quality is not that of Tamiya or Dragon but are they buildable w/ a little more effort and putty and is the detail acceptable enough to work off of these are just a few of their offerings I was looking atWink [;)]

Avoid the top one. It is the horrible early Trumpeter kit from when they made poor copies of Tamiya/Academy kits.

I don't think mini hobby models is around anymore. I think it's Trumpeter now Smile [:)]
Anywhoo, I've built a few of their MBTs, including the T-54, the M1A2, the T-72 (not the greatest), the K1A1, and have a couple more sitting around.
As you said, they definitely aren't Tamiya quality, but the price was right for me. THey do need quite a bit more work to get them looking good, but they're definitely buildable, and are an enjoyable modeling experience, as they will require you to actually use your modelling skills Smile [:)]
Where did you find the kits? I've been trying to find some of the older ones, including the Leo and the AAV7A1, but no LHS has them around here anymore.

I looked at these kits at a show and realized they are cheap copies of Tamiya kits. They even copied the instructions. Do yourself a favor and buy the Tamiya kits, IMO.
Erik "Don't fruit the beer." Newest model buys: More than I care to think about. It's time for a support group.

Mini-Hobby-Models is IMEX. Their website is directly attached to IMEX's. They have a list of what they are popping and it is all other people's stuff. I did get the Su-27 from them and the kit looks great (with the exception of the cockpit), but the plastic WILL NOT TAKE CA! Angry [:(!]

That would be great if I wasnt a broke college student who struggles to keep my stash at least 4 high, hearing that they are copies of Tamiya kits pleases me because they are half the price I dont mind a little more effort , it really test my skills as a modeler, so one day when I have a real job I can buy Tamiya kits and make them look just as good as these crappy kits.Cool [8D]
