Bandai Armour Kits - What's The Deal?
Posted by ModelNerd on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 4:59 PM
I recently picked up from Ebay a few German armour kits (Opel Maultier, Sd. Kfz 7 Halftrak, a Kubel, and an 8-Wheeled Armored Car) in 1:48 scale, made by Bandai. The included figures are a mishmash of sizes, and the drivers always look like Hitler Youth next to the standing figures. Is it me, or are these kits a tad on the "small" side of 1:48?

Can't answer that, I've sadly never owned a Bandai kit before, though my friend had a Panther. I don't recall the crew sizes.

Yes, Nerd, Bandai dudes seem to be a bit small compared to other figures; and they seem to be inconsistent as well. Sigh [sigh]

That reminds me... I gotta put some of mine up on the block...

I have only ever built thier jeep kits to go into a/c dios and have never used their figures. As far as I can tell the jeep is about right.

Over here in the UK, Bandai 1/48 armour kits almost always end up going
for very high prices on Ebay. Often 2-3x the cost of an equivalent 1/35 kit - obviously
they're quite collectable.

The Far Eastern company Frog (not the same Frog that made aircraft kits years
ago) has re-released a lot of these kits and they are generally much cheaper than the Bandai
ones. Never built one so can't comment on quality, accuracy etc.
