Guidance needed..
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, May 22, 2003 3:32 PM
During moving I seem to have misplaced the instructions to my Tamiya M2-A2 Bradley (desert storm version..)

Would anyone happen to have the instructions left over per chance? I'll happily make do with a scanned copy.

Much appreciated!

Oh.. And how does one remove an old layer of enamel paint?

Can't help with the instructions, but I took some old enamel paint off a Breyer horse for the wife by soaking it in brake fluid, it didn't hurt the plastic and the paint went away.

Call Tamiya. They have an 800 number for customer service. I recently purchased a model kit with japanese directions. I called them & they said they would put them in the mail. (I still haven't gotten then yet - it's only been a couple of days) The number is 1-800-TAMIYA_A ( 1-800-826-4922)

Hey Spamicus,

You didn't tear up the original finish on that Breyer horse did you?

I have those instructions.
However I want to keep the originals because I have not built the kit yet.
E-mail me your address and I will send you photocopys free of charge.

Mike: No, the original finish was just like new, except where it was worn off from playing with the horse. A guy at the model train shop turned me on to using brake fluid, I soak my aztek nozzles in it too.

I've only been trying to find that kit for a year or so. If you don't want it, I'll take it, even without the instructions. Ha Ha. Good luck!

I have heard that oven cleaning foam will take just about anything off. Don't know what it would do to plastics. I've never tried using it before like that.

Well.. Either my brake fluid is a bit off, or the revell enamel is tougher than I thought, so I'll try oven cleaning foam next.. I know a lot of lovely kinds of other paint strippers, but unfotunately most if not all dissolve styrene into a rather sticky puddle..

Thanks for the suggestion and I'll let you know if I get totally fed up with it ;)

I use fume free Easy Off oven cleaner to remove paint all the time. Absolutely no effect on plastic. I spray the kit down well with with the Easy Off in a larger zip lock freezer bag and let it sit overnight. I use an old tooth brush to scrub off the paint and those round tooth picks to get the paint out of nooks and crannies.
