Tank Tracks
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, May 27, 2003 2:09 AM
Hi everyone Cool [8D]
I live in Australia and want to get resin tank tracks for various armour especially for the Jadgtiger (late).
Can anyone suggest manufacturers and websites to help.
There once was Anvil Armour that made GREAT tracks, but they have ceased.
Thanks in advance

Oh no! anvil is OOP? Horrible news. I'm glad I got a set of their ISII/ISIII treads before they went under. What wonderful treads.

Anyway, at the risk of not answering your question, there are other tread choices besides resin. There's injection molded (modelkasten) and white metal (Friulmodelismo). They are better looking than resin. The down side is they take forever to build. Modelkasten are also very, very fragile. I find them very frustrating. Often a length will break after a certain number of links are assembled. You can repair them though with some very small gauge brass rod, to fill in for the broken pin (their pins are TEENY!!!).

Both companies make lengthened Tiger II sets for the big cat you're interested in. Good luck.

My preference leans towards the Fruil tracks. I've had nothing but good luck with their product and they sag like the real thing. But I have heard good things about Modelkasten over the years, just never had the chance to try their product.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Robert, I used to have the opposite feeling. I always loved Model Kasten and avoided Friul, but I've just received Friul's T-55 trax, and they're absolutely beautiful! My previous experiences with their products were tainted by endless clean-up and redrilling due to a ton of metal flash. Very rough.
This T-55 set is clean and easy to assemble, and VERY strong.
If that is an indication of their current level of quality, then we got a race! Still, they are quite expensive.
I still love Kasten, though, and have never had any problems with breakage.
Some guys here even use the Kasten trax for their little RC conversions, and they hold up no problem.
