M1A1 Decals?
Posted by Snacko on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 4:55 PM
I know that the aftermarket for tank decals probably isn't as large as it is for planes, but I was wondering if there are available aftermarket decals for the M1. I've looked up my favorite places (TwoBobs, AeroMaster, etc.) and so far I haven't found anything but aircraft.

I'm looking for markings for the 3rd or 4th ID. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tamiya makes a set of modern armor decals. Runs about $5 for the set. Luckily, modern US armor markings are very easy to make yourself. If you have access to a laser printer, just buy a piece of clear decal film and and use a program like PowerPoint or MS Word. Pick the font that your computer has that looks "right" (print out on a piece of regular paper first) and make your own.

Also you can pick up rub on dry transfer letters and numbers at the local arts & crafts store, again picking the right font. Either apply directly to the tank or apply to clear decal film and cut out the decals an apply as normally.

Hey guys,

Verlinden came out with a dry transfer sheet "M1 Tank Markings Desert Shield" (Sheet #559) I just picked one up on ebay for $4.
Its got the chevron markings and platoon designators along with markings for two tanks from the 24th division (same battalions as in the 3rd ID in Iraq). I don't know if its still available, but it works for current markings too.

Regarding the Tamiya decals, do you know where they can be purchased? (I looked on several 'net model retailer sites, but didn't find them).

Thanks,
