M1A1 Pics?
Posted by Snacko on Thursday, May 29, 2003 9:44 AM
Have you all found any good sites for reference M1A1 pics? I've tried my old trusty stanby fas.org, but they are less than inpiring. Hope to find more recent pics, especially during OP Iraqi Freedom.

Thanks,

Check out Major Gronovius' site! REALLY good detail shots, both inside and out. Any one of his posts has the link to it!

Midnight - been there, tried that :-) That's why I posted the request here. I wasn't able to find anything of value, especially when trying to decpher markings and detail.

Cobra - thanks for the heads up. There are some decent photos in there, but I was hoping to find some up-close-and-personal pics, like the ones you can find on the Airforce website of their aircraft.

Gotta be some recent news photo sites out there with good photos of M1s.

Junior - thought about that, and I may still do it, but I'm interested in the latest pics, such as those from OP IF. I'd like to detail them with as much attention to contemporary detail as possible. I do have some reference books (mostly for aircraft), but my experience with those books is that they are great for early-90s-and-before periods. They don't seem to update them that often. A search on Amazon only revealed one such book. Published in 1991.

This link should help:

http://www.ifrance.com/ArmyReco/Amerique_du_nord/Etats_Unis/vehicules_lourds/M1_Abrams/M1_Abrams_Etats_Unis_Diaporama.htm

I have several pictures of M1's during OIF that I have downloaded. If you want any of them let me know and I'll e-mail them to you.

Try doing a Yahoo search for M1A1. When you get the results look at the top of the page and click on "images". Instead of surfing whole sites Yahoo gives you thumbnails of images matching M1A1 from thousands of sites..

I just did it while typing this and found dozens! of pics.

I am looking for up close shots of the turret hatch latchs and verious other details not found in any of the other sources.

I have a copy of the Tweaks List for the Abrams. It explains the fixes for inaccuracies but does not show them. Any help from you guys with the real Abrams outside your window, PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks,
Dustan

Major G,

Quick question for ya. Would you happen to have any photos of an Abrams bogey disassembled? The reason I ask is I'm modeling a particular tank from TF4/64 in Baghdad under the crossed sabers monument. One of their tanks stopped to change a bogey. I've got a great shot of it with the rear right armor skirt open and the new bogey resting against the front of the right track. I'm hoping to replicate it in a diorama, but have no clue how to model the bogey being changed.

Thanks!
