I just baught a new kit, a revell M109A6 , it's so much better that the italeri one, I can't wait to start it! The only down side to it is the rubberband style tracks as Icall them, I really gotta find some individual link kits or something? Maybe one with the wide mud blade kits, that would be really cool!!
well I'll post my gun pics as I progress through it.

The Revell kit is a reboxed Italeri kit. Skybow makes M108/109 individual track links for around $10.

I purchased my Paladin tracks from www.greatmodels.com, they were $10.75, nice tracks.

Does anyone know where to find reference photos for the Paladin, especially the A2?

Thanks

What does the revell paliden cost . (u.s. dollers)
I was thinking about getting eduard's conversion set to up grade
the italeri m-109 to the paliden.
Is it worth it?
Or should I just get the revell kit?

I'm stationed in germany so mine was 22.00 euros.

dcw3105, if you check out ronUSMC's web page , I downloaded a lot of paladin pics. That's my job in the army, Artillery! Also if you check out some kinda Israli artillery site, I do believe they use our older systems along with a host of other friendly nations.

James, to do an upgrade on an A-5 to a A-6 it's kinda a drastic change, the afcs, the outside mounted hydraulic res.,the larger bussel rack and the extended racks, to the automated travel lock.I put some pics of an A-5 and A-6 on ronUSMC's site in the reference section check them out , you'll see the difference between the two. hope this helps out?

And thanks for the directions for the tracks!!!!

The Paladin, or M109A6, has a different turret than the earlier M109 series of self-propelled howitzers. Italeri actually makes (or made, some maybe OOP) all variants from the 105mm M108, M109 thru the M109A6.

Beware that the Eduard set for the M109A6 Paladin is not designed to convert an earlier M109 variant to a Paladin. It is designed to add photo etch detail to the M109A6 Paladin kits by Italeri and Revell of Germany.

The detail set is worth buying if you already have a Paladin.

Okay, new at this so if I screw up... a reply to the question about the A2. At the time the A2 came out, the Paladin didn't exist. The A2, as might be guessed was an improvement on the A1. Basically, the A2's major improvement externally was the hooded glass cover for the panoramice telescope (pantel) sight. Otherwise, it was the M109A1 all over agian.

Another few tips about modeling a Paladin. The kits have the housings on the upper hull behind the engine grilles that were originally used on the M109 series for the floatation devices. These aren't fitted to the 'A6. Also, the bolt pattern on the side of the hull is different than the kit, so find some reference photos to pick which to keep and which to shave. Also, don't muddy or scrape up the trail spades, Paladin usually fires without fully emplacing (as did the older M109's)... of course, there are exceptions to this from time to time! There are also other little differences that I an't remember right off the top of my head, so look over photos as muchas possible. And... enjoy modeling a great artillery piece!

it's called degradded when a paladin fires with the spades down, usually due to low hydraulics or going manual like on the previous models of gun.

I almost forgot!!
one of our batteries is currently putting an extra road wheel on the driverside of the vehicle
(right on the side where those bolts are). and also For Your Knowledge, sometimes if gun crews want or need extra space for sleeping inside the gun or the cat we will put straps on those bolts and strap all kinds of gear to them. no one likes sleeping in the rain or the snow!!!!!!!!

I found a few items on my gun while I walking around and noticed that the kits don't have any of these little things on them, I'll go around and take a few pics and measurments so it's easy to build them, also you'll need to put 4 track links on the front deck, 2 together and 2 individual ones, these go below the drivers hatch on the access panels the double one goes first closest to the hatch then the two single go on the others. I think I have pics posted already?
but my better half is nagging so I gotta go, .............ahgggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!.......................................................................................................................................................................................

That's an Alpha btry gun, I took this when I was in the field while attached to a service battery.
I do have a lot of pics downloaded to ronUSMCs web page in the armor referenc section, there are a lot to help with the guns.
don't forget to make the extra links on the front deck, and there is also a hand looking thing on the back door , I'll take more pics during
week and it'll make the build a lot easier .

any peg things on the front should be cut off , cept for the one by the travel lock, then on the sides, if you see that there is
clusters of bolts down the sides in sets of 3's, it should be sets of 2 ( side by side ) you can kinda tell from my profile picture?

Hi Redleg1-7FA, i was wondering since you have acces to a Paladin, would you have access to a M992A2, the support vehicle for it, because i have been searching high and low for detailed pictures of it so i can build it and i havent had any luck. So i am wondering if you can take some pictures of it? If not, thanks anyway, the paladin pics are helpful so thanks for them!

Cat pictures coming up this week, I would've done it this weekend but the hey you details suck around here.
we still call the ammo carrier a cat so that's still the same thing, just don't let me confuse you mmkay?
just let me know some focal points you want? or if you can give me a run down of the kit, I should be able to
let you know what you need to scratch build so you can set your kit apart from the rest of the box kits.

Hey Red
How goes..cant wait..just looking for the upper hull measurements..and hatch measurements..
another question ..they use the forward observer...fassv in your unit..i found one with belgium markings but wasnt sure if its in US inventory..also ment to ask you
the floation inflation pice thats on the kit is removed on real paladins..but is that sectoin of the hull moved closer to the turret..or is theyre a large gap..between the two

thanks Ray

For the ammo carrier i am gonna have to take a pladin chassis and then scratch build the upper portion of the carrier because if i am not mistaken the ammo carrier is based on the paladin chassis? Some photos and dimensions(if possible) of the upper portion of the hull, where the turret would be on a paladin would be extremely helpful, oh and maybe a few pics of the crane up front(i saw one in a couple pics) and the interior with the ammo racks and ammo transfering boom that extends out the back. I am planning to have the cat transferring some rounds to the paladin in a sort of diorama. This is a lot i realize but any photos at all would be helpful. The kit i am using is the Italeri Paladin. Thanks A LOT
