DML BMP-2
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, June 2, 2003 10:18 PM
just acquired a DML 1/35 BMP-2 is there anything I need to watch out for in this kit? Is there a way to fill the periscopes with something clear?

The fit on this kit and the BMP-1 (just a few parts swapped/extra) is real loose. Decide whether or not you want the hatches open or close. Those oversized working hinges don't really work. It's best to glue the hatches and hinges in place. I found the upper hull went together really tough. I had to work those edges of the hull towards the rear.

For the periscope, you can use something called "Crystal Clear", it's a watch makers' glue. You can also use clear drying 5-minute epoxy or for the budget minded, just use Elmer's white glue.

See your point on the hatches. Due to the complete lack of interior they will be closed. The rear of the upper hull was slightly warped and too long on one side. placing the rear sides (where the gun ports are) fixed the warpage but i'm gonna have to sand the long part to fit.

If you are wanting something extra to put on your BMP-2, look for PanzerShop or SP designs products. Earlier this year I finished a BMP-1 in Syrian colors. How are you planning on painting your BMP-2?

Thanks for the pointers to Panzershop and SP design, I don't think I've seen them before.Big Smile [:D] The finish options in the instructions are: U.S.S.R. (2), D.D.R., Finland, and Czechslovakia. I am considering the Finnish version because it has a cool splinter camo scheme but I may search the net for other options.
