Up-Armored HMMMWV is an M1114. It can be made from a regular M1025 or the new Tamiya M1046 pretty easily. The main pieces that need to be added are the louvered vents on the top and side of the left rear sloping roof, extend the radiator grill out, add front winch (included in M1046 kit), Add armor plate around front windshield, armor plate under vehicle and along bottom under doors on both sides, armored doors from M1046 kit or make your own. Also need to add full length rear bumper. Lastly, a small square of armor plate over heater intake louvers on passenger side in front of door, by front wheel.

Here is how it looks.

I built one a while ago for a client, not too difficult. Good luck.

Are you going for the 1113 or an improvised armor gun truck?

Hey: I'm currently operating M1114s in Iraq, I do have pictures of our vehicals and I'm willing to e-mail them. The M1114s HeavyArty posted are plan Janes, all of ours have turrets and we have just added heavy duty front bumpers. Most of the IFF panels on the sides have either been blown off or ripped off during patrols. I hope a company will come out with a 1/35 M1114 based on what is being used here now.

I did with what I had when I was over there, I built my own improvised armor. Which is what a lot of vehicles have any ways. I used sheet plastic, an e-collar (think satelite dish dog) and cut the stuff out. The kit was the Itilery Avenger kit that I picked up on a supply run to Doha Kuwait's PX. They had models there!!!

M1046 TOW carrier is not an uparmored HMMWV. It only has armored doors and a couple armored plates on the floor for crew protection. A true uparmored HMMWV is the M1114 as I mentioned above. Not the same vehicle.

If, by chance, you have ever seen Black Hawk Down, or read the excellent book by the same name, you will understand why they don't use the 1046-style armor over in Iraq and why there is such extensive work going on now to up-armor these vehicles.

BTW if anyone here wants, I have a link or two of some pretty good fire-fights over in Iraq, including one pretty good high-speed run through Baghdad avoiding mortar attacks.
