BRDM in BF1942/Desert Combat
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, June 9, 2003 10:23 PM
Hey all!

First time poster here, and just getting back into modelling after a 15 year hiatus, so go easy on me! Big Smile [:D]

I've only ever built aviation-related models, but I just discovered how cool building armor can be. Boy, I didn't know what I was missing all these years!

I play a PC game called Battlefield 1942. There's a mod for the game called Desert Combat (check it out at www.desertcombat.com) and I'm building several vehicles from the game. Namely: M1A1, T72, and the Bradley IFV. In the game, there's a vehicle called a BRDM-2 Amphibius Scout Car. Questions are: Does a model of this exist? What are some good places to find these types of vehicles?

Since I'm just getting back into this hobby, I'm a little short on resources. Any help would be appreciated.

MODEL ON!

Do a search on www.squadron.com or www.scalehobby.com and you should turn up some.

I believe it was done by Dragon, but I think it's OOP. Some of the older DML kits are being reissued by Italeri and Zvezda, so your best bet is too look for them or check on E-bay for BRDM's.

The BRDM-2 and BRDM-3 were both put out by DML (virtually the same kit). Revell of Germany reboxes the BRDM-2 as well. My local shop carries both the DML and RoG boxings. The RoG version is $20, unsure of how much the DML one was, but it was slightly more.

Schweeet!! I found one at the squadron.com website. They even sell an Eduard AM kit, too! (Thanks Derek!)

This forum is great. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to help.

juniormodeler: My BF/DC handle is Sting. Hope to see you "on the battlefield" sometime. Thanks for the info.

Hey Muzzleflash!

I'm SURE I've seen you around on one of the DC servers. The name is very familiar. I purchased the DML kit as well from a seller on eBay. Couldn't find it locally. Decent kit, but needs some work. Make sure you get those pics up! I'll do the same with mine. I'm also going to build many other BF/DC vehicles. M1A1, T72, BRDM-2, Bradley IFV, Humvee (tow), Apache, and Hind, are the ones I've purchased, so far. M1A1 and T72 are ready for paint. Imagine a diorama of one of the flag points in El Alamein... Hmmm...

My BF/DC handle is Sting.

Gazala's a good map. How about that new Al-Khafji Docks map in .38? I think it rocks.
