Fortunate Father
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 9:13 PM
The other day my wife asked me what I'd like for Father's Day. Thinking of food with no fixing fuss, I said hot dogs would be fine. She then told me "wrong answer, dingbat." It seems my daughter was trying to find out what I would like to get for that day. I told her that since I was planning on doing a Sherman tank after I finish the Stuka I'm working on now, I told her it would save me time and funds if she wanted to get one of those for me.

Since I had been doing some looking around for myself, I even provided her with manufacturers, kit numbers and websites, complete with pricing information, for her to choose from.

These were my selections: US Marines M4 Sherman - Italeri 6389, M4A3 Sherman - Tamiya 35122, M4 Sherman Early Production - Tamiya 35190 or the M4A3 Sherman w/75mm Gun - Tamiya 35250. Any one of which would serve my purpose.

Now comes the good part - she actually found and ordered all four. I will soon be in Shermans up to my ears. How fortunate can one man get?

That's great!

My wife asked the same question to me, I also provided her with a list of German armor I am interested in. I think I named 8-10 different ones, so I would be surprised.

Well, I am also a huge NASCAR fan. I usually renew my season tickets for the Michigan race every year. Well, this year, I decided that I would just watch the race on TV. Today, my wife hands me an envelope with a ticket and pit pass that she ordered for this Sunday's race. She said it was a present from her, I would get the ones from my daughter later this week Big Smile [:D] Big Smile [:D]

PS...ZooKeeper, you're gonna make Shermanfreak jealous!

Sniff .... sniff ..... nobody ever buys me Shermans.

Give your wife and daughter a big hug Zookeeper. The gift of a Sherman is a true sign of love. You truly are fortunate.

Zookeeper,
Is the lady a class act or what?
Do yourself a favor and reciprocate - do the same for her. Flowers, a night out, a night in, a lovely moonlit walk, whatever - Mate, you'll accrue brownie points like you wouldn't believe!!! Then, for a period of time, you can do NO wrong, and she'll forgive you nearly everything (even the purchase of that kit you really don't need)!!
I do exactly that with my wife (not to "get out of jail", but because I love her) and she'll often do something like that - we usually can't afford the kits I prefer to buy, but every now and again I'll do something that melts her heart and she'll tell me to go ahead and get the kit I've been drooling over for the past 4 months.
Regrettably, modeling is a very solitary pursuit, and she can't feel or "get" involved with it alongside of me - so I have to divide my time between what's important TO HER and the family and what's important to me.
I build almost exclusively for clients, and even though my building efforts help to pay the mortgage and credit cards, it still "takes me away" from the family, even though I'm only 15 feet away from the wife and kidneys.
The creative process of crafting miniatures is fascinating and compelling, but it must be leavened with the more mundane practicalities of life.
Mate, enjoy the Shermans!! And don't forget to post a picture of a few of them so we can enjoy them, too!!
Cheers
LeeTree

Yes, you certainally are lucky. My wife and family haven't a clue what to get me for birthdays etc. We have two large hobby shops in the area and they never think of getting me even a gift certificate from these stores. I guess I could drop a few more hints and that way I won't have to return some ugly shirt! What a lady you have, she fills your needs.

Thanks for your comments, you're all correct when you say that my wife is great. She has to be to have put up with me for all these years. It will be 34 in December and yes, I remember the date of our anniversary. But it is my daughter, now 26, who got me the Shermans.

My wife and daughter are both top drawer to me. Along with our other two kids (daughter-older and son-younger by a year) and of course my two year old grandson.
