Kelly's Heros
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, January 18, 2003 3:04 AM
Has anyone ever done a Diorama with a scene from the movie Kelly's Heros. I recently bought the film on DVD and thought the scene where Clint Eastwood, Donald Southerland and Telly Savalas walk down to the Tiger in the town squar to talk to the tank commander, would make a great diorama. What are peoples thoughs on that? And has anyone ever done that as a diorama before? Also the Tiger was painted black and green, not a camo sceam I've seen before, was it a sceam the Germans used?

HI down there..!

Yes, I did the scene with the Sherman firing the pink paint shell on the 'Tiger'... It was in fact a 3 modeller project. I worked on the tanks and buildings, with another guy, while another did the figures. It looked great!

Another scene I'd love to do is when the Shermans come out of the train tunnel and start blowing up everything while playing loud music. Excellent. Good luck in your project!

I'd love to see pics of that Diorama sounds cool, I like your idea of the Sherman coming out of the train tunnel.

Hey, maybe we could do that together one day! Ha! I'll see if I can find a pic of that one. It's one of those models I gave away because I lacked the space (it was 1/35). I think that scene on the main square would be really cool. Go for it!

have either of you seen the Jaguar 1/35 scale figures of Kelly, Crappgame, et al, walking toward the Tiger? the set of 4 would lend itself to an interesting diorama. The Tiger's paint scheme was the driector's flight of fancy, since no one on the set knew anything about SS or Wermacht armor camo patterns.

Greatmodels Webstore carries Jaguar figures. I think that Squadron does, also.

Nice image. Smile [:)]
http://hometown.aol.co.uk/djmodels1999/images/kelly's%20heroes.jpg

Only problem tho'...the code to convert the image tags doesn't like the single apostrophe. If you can rename the image, it'll show up. I know it's a pain, but it's to prevent people from exploiting the Forum Code and doing bad things. Smile [:)]

Edit Pt. I - Looks like you can make it into a link though. Wink [;)]
Edit Pt. II - Ah...if you have spaces in the filename, just replace them with %20 and if you have an apostrophe, replace it with %27 and it works. I fixed your image. Big Smile [:D]

I saw a diorama in Dallas that was titled Oddball's(the character Sutherland played) Tiger. SOrry, no pictures. But it featured him and crew sitting around under a tarp attached to the Tiger he bought drinking wine with a nude girl bathing in a tub.

Yes,

The topic of having the movie characters confronting the Tiger tank in Kelly's Heroes has been done before! If I'm not mistaken, I saw a diaroma in Fine Scale Modeler about one to two years ago. As for the Tiger tank paint schemes, the tanks in the movie were painted dark grey with olive green stripes. For the time period for which this movie was to take place (1944), Tiger tanks were already painted in the three tone color pattern (dark yellow, red brown, and olive green). That's Hollywood for you! If you really want your sceen to replicate the movie, then look for the Vismod kit that's available on the market. I believe I saw it avertized in the magazine as well!

Hope this helps! Have a fun time with your project!

there are two of us doing oddball's Sherman in the Sherman build.

andytank is doing the scence where the tank is in camp when kelly first meets oddball and I am either doing the railroad scene, or maybe the river scene when Big Joe and all the gang pile on the Sherman.

I really want to do the one where oddball is hanging on the barrel looking at the back side of the tiger.

Oh, grab a Sherman and join the sherman build!Cool [8D]

Cool dio Domi. Great movie. Anyone have a favorite character? I like Crapgame. "Muligan, will ya quit crying, I haven't asked you for anything yet!"
"I'll give you $50 bucks to carry the machine-gun". Telly was hysterical too.

Moriarity....Oddball: "Can't you say something helpful or righteous for a change?"
Moriarity: "CRAP!"

Or Oddball who had lot's of great lines like: "To a New Yorker like you a hero is some type of wierd sandwich not some nut who takes on three tigers!'

Oddball- "There you go again with them negative waves"
