I really gotta learn how to post pics on the forum. thanks ron.
thanks guys! it's got a long way to go, plus the others I'm trying to work on at the same time. maybe i bit off more than I can chew, but what the hey, I stuck it in gear so now I have to drive with it?
I did try something new last night with the extra links for the tracks:
I use acrylic paint tamiya as you can see in the pics, I used a pipe cleaner to apply some rubbing alcohol to the painted tracks and then applied my pastel wash for the rust, wow, it clumped it in the right spots all in the groves and then when it all dried I just used a fan brush to knock off any excess. it looks good, I'll post a few of it as I finish my tracks with it.

Great pics and website...love the model desk webcam. One question about the webcam - do you really drink that much coffee or is the camera only showing one picture? :)

I put up some more pics of my progress of this beast.
the rust wash was pretty easy to do, I even managed to get the rust into just about everything?
next the exhaust stains and muzzle stains, maybe some impact marks from some small shells?

Coming along very nicely Redleg. What did you use for your Rust Wash? Did you use a Burst Sienna mixture? Hurry up and get those tracks on Wink [;)] I'd like to see the finished pics.

I used some pastels mixed together ( I can't remember the combo, I just used some old art class tech.)I just put an impact mark on it, it came out pretty good for another first? I'm also waiting for the upper and lower portion to dry as I just glued them together. it looks like a mad science project! I've got a C clamp on the front and an alcohol bttle resting on the rear deck leaning on a magazine rack of FSM.
I'll have some new pics up in about an hour or so ( it's 19:48 german time ) .

Coming along nicely Redleg.

I have a question for you though .... are you using the flash on your camera for taking these pics? If so, try to light the model with a couple lamps instead, turn your flash off and the quality of the pics will greatly improve.

I'll have to try that, I'm a grunt so thanks for the advice on the camera, I still don't know how to use some of the features on that crazy thing.

I suffer from the same problem Redleg ..... did a lot of reading before I even attempted to take my first close up pic of my models so just passing on one of the things I learned. I actually use three small halogen spots for indoor photography, two in front and one above, seems to work not too bad.

I just put up 9 new pics of this thing , I think the better light helped?

It helped a bit Redleg but seems to still be some glare. I have included a link to a post that I placed a couple of months ago here at the forums. It shows the simple setup that I have been using. I have just replaced the overhead goosenecklamp with another halogen spot, we'll see how my next pics turn out. Hope this helps a bit ..... remember the key thing about this whole set up is cheap.

Redleg, I'm no expert but it looks like your lights are to low or close to the camera. It looks like direct glare on the lens to me. Try making a "shade" for the lamps out of posterboard or something (not too combustible!) (don't attach directly to lamp either!) and leave just enough room to keep them out of the frame.

BTW the model is coming along nicely!
