Color for ammo!
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 26, 2003 12:55 PM
I have a German Flak 37, and I know what color I need to paint the shell. But what my question is, is what color should I paint the head (for a lack of a better word). I don't know what you would really call it. I hope I'm making any sence.

A local armor museum here had a few shells of a Flak 37 sitting next to their Gun. The shell casings were a dirty brass, and the shell itself (head) was a dark grey, kind of like the shade of Gunship grey or panzer grey. I hope this helps.

I agree with Duke. I paint the ammo heads with a black grey mixture. Basically a dark grey.

ok thanks guys. Sorry for my lack of terminology. So do you think that I could use Tamiya's Field Grey, and add a little bit of black to it? Maybe like 2 parts Field Grey and 1 part Black?

Field Grey, especially Tamiya's is on the green side ( more of a green grey). If you were to use Tamiya Acrylic's I would recommend Tamiya's Dark Grey mixed with some Tamiya Nato Black. Again this is my opinion.

Cheers

a few terms:

projectile = the thing that flies out of the muzzle
pro-jo = same as above
bullet = same
round = same
just some of the common terms we use.

adws, you can purchase those Tamiya colors where you get your other ones. It isn't like Dark Grey and nato Black are obscure colors. You should be able to get them at any hobby shop that sells Tamiya Acylics.

1) Is it the 3,7cm or 8,8cm?
2) What type of round? HE? AP? FlAK?

Round has several meanings.
Not all projectiles are bullets but all bullets are projectiles.

Well, not to drag up an old topic, but I found a good picture of WW2-Presant ammo lineup.
It comes from here: http://www.armorinaction.com/
