Fujimi M36 Jackson - What's wrong with it?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 28, 2003 2:31 AM
Hey Guys,
I recently bought a Fujimi M36 Jackson in 1/76 scale. At the hobbyshop, an armor "Joysucker/Rivetcounter" told me the hull is inaccurate and that I wasted my money. I did some research on Google on the M36 and I can't find what's wrong with the hull. It appears to be an M10 hull and that's what the M36 used. I know they also used an M4A3 hull for the M36B. Maybe that's what this guys problem is.

Does anyone know what this inaccuracy is? And if you do please let me know.

Thanks,

Have fun with it. I don't know the problems, if you go to www.missing-lynx.com and go the the discussion groups (Braille Scale) those guys probably have some expert advice on the Fujimi kit. Personally, I'd just build it.

I agree with the Major, just build it and enjoy, Keep in mind that a model is a "small imitation" of something. No model is ever 100% accurate for many, many reasons. If you like the way it turned out, it's just fine.

I must admit, I count rivets. And if you’re not careful, this is the fastest way to suck the enjoyment out of any model kit.

If you care to correct the problems, GreatModels.com has a great tool to search for what your looking for (of course you will have to buy it…). Click on the cross reference link. Once you get the categories to narrow down your search, a list will be displayed of vehicles that fit the description. Click on the vehicle your looking for, and all the products that GreatModels carries pertaining to that vehicle will be listed.

I often use this tool to see what is available and then compare prices with other stores.

Hope this helps

Rivet Counters?! I nearly laughed myself off my seat!

Im an actor and I was working on the film Gods and Generals and amongst the Civil War reenactors was a group they called "The Button Pissers" as they literally soaked their coat buttons (brass) in urine to give them a patina similar to those coats in museums...the absurdity? Well, the uniforms in museums are like that because they havent been polished in forever......so these guys, in their attempts to be 'hard corps' make themselves look like fools.

I found the guys who did the hobby the 'normal' way were the ones I liked to be around. There is NOTHING wrong with accuracy....Im also a screenwriter focusing on history, but come on...

Rivet couting takes you to the point that Dave Barry describes when he said "There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness".

Enjoy the kit and if you find you cant, ALTER IT! Make it more accurate. THAT is why I started modeling again. I dont strive for the picture on the box...but the ones I see in my WWII books and the like...so modification is key.

So enjoy the kit and produce what YOU care about.

Sic Semper Tyrannis,

Sean

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. I'm not going to alter the kit, I'M GOING TO BUILD IT AS IS!!!! Ya hear that ya model freaks!!!

What is wrong with the kit is that the top of the hull is a few scale inches to high, BIG WHOOP. If you compare it to the new Extra-Tech M10, you can see the difference. Other that that, BIG WHOOP.
