@Mongie: what Ixion meant about "zombie thread" is that in discussion forums, it's best to let old threads like this stay where they are and if you have a new question, to start a new thread. You wrote: "I've been considering buying the Tamiya 88mm and they do a nice sdkfz as well" The Tamiya 8.8cm Flak 36/37 came out in 1973 -- a wonder at that time. The SdKfz7 came out near the same time. If you're a more advanced modeler, may I suggest you investigate the newer SdKfz 7 tractor and 8.8cm Flak gun offerings from DML? They benefit from 40+ years of research and modeling technology. They're more complex, but infinitely more accurate. By the way, your use of "sdkfz" isn't orthodox either. SdKfz is an abbreviation for Sonderkraftfahrzeug or special motorized vehicle. You must accompany SdKfz with a number. Otherwise, it'd be the equivalent of saying: "I plan on buying the 1/48 Hasegawa P-47 Thunderbolt and they do a nice airplane as well" Awkward, no? Hope this helps

An Sd.Kfz.1 is a staff car...

The Sd.Kfz. 7 is the most common vehicle for towing an 88mm Flak.

11 year old zombie thread...Tongue Tied

So was the sdkfz 1 ever used to tow the 88? I've been considering buying the Tamiya 88mm and they do a nice sdkfz as well, so I thought I'd get the two together it they used the sdkfz 1 as a hauler...

This is the typical mover for the towed FLAK 36,37 and 18, the Sd Kfz 7 or 8 ton prime mover. I'm building the gun now. (Tamiya Flak 37)

The FAMO was rated to pull a ton! It would have been wasteful on a medium weight arty piece like the 8.8cm Flak guns. In its prime mover role, it hauled 21cm heavy heavy mortar assemblies.

Your "expert" seems needs to go back to school and get more info. LOL

The main prime mover for the 88 was the sdkfz 7. I dont think the demag ever carried them, but im not sure on that.
