1/35 Leopold, it's here
Posted by erush on Monday, July 21, 2003 12:06 PM
Well, I was in the hobby shop today on my lunch break when up drives the Fed-Ex truck with two HUGE boxes from Dragon and yes they contained 5 of the new Leopold kits.

I was thinking of holding out for the Trumpeter but after pawing through the Dragon Blush [:I] I think there is plenty of detail there without all the extra parts the Trumpeter is supposed to have. There are p/e screens , chain and string included in the kit plus the rail bed which has the bed, cross ties and rails as seperate pieces. Over all it looks great and if any real detail is lacking I thinkg Aber or someone will end up doing a p/e set for it.

As you can probably tell, one of them is sitting in my back seat (all of it Big Smile [:D] ). My dealer gave me a discount I couldn't refuse Big Smile [:D] Tongue [:P]

Now when will Jordio do a turned aluminum barrel??? Tongue [:P]

I'll do that M1.

I forgot to mention that the tremendous one piece casting for the lower "hull" is in fact straight as an arrow and very well done! No warping on it at all. Big Smile [:D]

Hey Eric,

If its not too much trouble, could you periodicly post progress pics of the build and keep us updated to how your doing and your response to the kit and the build process? I think it would be kind of fun if you could share the trials and tribulations of this build.

Renarts, I'd be glad to but it may be a while before I can start on it. I just don't have room on my workdesk right now but hopefully I'll be moving soon where I can get a bigger desk to work on. I'll be sure to share when I do start it.

A sea of plastic. I like it. Yes sir...I like it alot.
I'm going to make a pilgrimage to Aberdeen this fall. Don't they have one there?

Give it up Eric. I bet you feel like the kid who had the first Flexible Flyer on the block don't you? Big Smile [:D] Approve [^]
And we are all the neighborhood kids standing around trying to get a glimpse.[:0]Shy [8)]Cool [8D]Tongue [:P]Smile [:)][:0]Shy [8)]

Good luck with it. Stuff like that makes you feel like a kid again doesn't it.

Renarts
You're right it does kind of feel like that. Remember Eddie Murphy? I got the ice cream and you don't have none...cause you're on the welfare... hahahaa Big Smile [:D]

I'm really not trying to brag or anything guy's and gals. Just wanting to share and give my opinions on new releases if I get one. I figure it might help someone make a decision if they're interested.

Shermanfreak
No problem bro!! It is huge and should build into quite the display model. Have you seen VLS Custom Dioramics Super Diorama of the train station??? Imagine this sitting in front of that, platform full of SS or who ever manned the gun (I"ve not done any research to that extent Tongue [:P] )... THAT would be impressive...but would require it's own room!!Big Smile [:D]

Now who's going to release a 1/35 DORA!!!!!! Tongue [:P] Big Smile [:D]

ILuv3eggs
Order one from Internet Hobbies or somewhere. They've got them for around $76 USD right now and shipping wouldn't be THAT much!!!

You have to put it on the mantle piece. I f you don't have one, build one. Do one of those false fire places like you see all the designers doing these days. If nothing else build it, its own display shelf in a place of prominence.

Man, dont worry about the bragging either. The last time I went down to the hobby shop he had one of those new big money f-16 kits. Some guy had special ordered it and the day he came to pick it up all the regulars showed up to see it go, Mainly because they wanted to talk him into opening it up there in the shop so everyone could see. He let the owner display it for a couple of weeks as well before he picked it up to take home. I noticed his name was up on it where everyone could see. Big letters Sold To xxxxxxx. Its all about the toys. And he who dies with the most toys wins....now when's the estate sale?

Its nice of you to share with all of us and I know I'm happy you got it. Brag away. I know I would.

Wow, you're either a midget or that's one big gun shermanfreak!!! Big Smile [:D] Wink [;)]

Can you imagine what the Dora was like????

Honestly, if I had the money I'd have tried to buy one I saw for sale in 1/35 scale a few years back. I think it was aournd 2grand they wanted, plus the cost of shipping, addition to the house...Tongue [:P] It's too bad a Dora didn't get salvaged in a place like Aberdeen.

Do you have any more pics of the gun? I'd like to see them if you wouldn't mind.

RENARTS>>>

Yes, that big beast lives in Aberdeen. She is diagonal parked from the 16" coastal defense gun!!

I am about an hour away, and I'm kinda due for a trip up there soon. I'll upload hi-res pics if/when it happens.

Sorry Eric ..... only took a couple of pics of Leopold when I was at Aberdeen. I got so wrapped up taking pics of all the Sherman variants there that I just didn't want to waste any film on stuff I didn't think I'd build.

We'll have to ask Muzzleflash & Renarts to bring a few extra rolls of film with them and make a special trip just to photograph this big girl.

I got a call at work yesterday from my wife, she said the UPS guy just dropped off a washing machine box, so I knew what was waiting for me when I got home Big Smile [:D]

Little did I know that, they also shipped (in the same box) a kit I had on backorder...my 60cm Morser "Karl"

I am just stunned at how big the Leopold kit really is because, the Karl kit is no slouch [:0]

PS....Shermanfreak, you should have shimmied up the gun barrel so we could have a better look at you my friend!

The M.P.s at Aberdeen were in a very crotchety mood the day we were there. They must have asked me to get off of the display tanks at least 6 times while we were on the base.

The M.P.s at Fort Knox were much more cooperative though.
