M1A2 help required
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 28, 2003 8:33 PM
I am still working on my Abrams M1A2, and I have just finished scratch building some infrared IFF panels- the square louvre type panels on the turret. Can anyone tell me how they are attatched? I could just glue them on, but I am trying for realism and therefore wondering if they are bolted on, or held with straps. Also, the Dragon kit that I am using does not have the rear towhook included in the kit! It appears that they neglected to make this part, as the rear panel of the kit does have the protusion for the towhook, but the hook itself is not included. Any advice on how to make this part?

Are you talking about the "hook" or the "pintle"? The hooks are most often carried inside the sponson boxes to keep them from getting lost or broken. Some guys keep one on the front to use as a step, but that's a left over deal from the M60 series. If the pintle is what you need, I stole one off my scrap box M-1 for my sheridan.

the iff panels are put inside of the own special holder and strapped onto the side
