Good work Abrams..you are ahead of me when it comes to starting your modelling hobby. I wish I started when I was 16. Now that you have that airbrush you will be getting these puppies done like an assembly line.

As for the grey on wheels like dj said, I believe it is all a matter of preference. I will basecoat the road wheels in either a Tamiya Black/Nato Black mixture, or a Tamiya Black/Drak Grey mixture. Some high profile modellers still go the sharpie route with a nice coat of dullcote over it.

Hey M1. Not bad at all. If you are going to use a sharpie, cut a groove in the tip to slip the rubber portion of the road wheels in.
It'll go alot faster and less strain.

Not bad at all as a starting model. Of course there is some room for improvemnent, but you'll be surprised on how quickly you'll profress model after model...

Right now I am doing Tamiya's 1/35 SAS LandRover. I'm going to put in 110% and hopefully it will be my best model yet.

shhh, don't tell anybody. hey I just started building regularly about 3 months ago. total: 10 LOL 6 in about the last 3 months, 2 in progress. 3 unbuilt.

I just ordered some hasegawa M1's from the hobby shop the other day. and my birthdays in 6 days.

Right on M1. Hey it just takes a little practice, then bang, you get it down. My first German tanks were painted with a horrible glossy grey paint, yuck. Nice effort on the cammo job. Just curious, have you built your namesake yet? Ok, how many have you built?

it was fun at times, but at others (try a sharpie on the treads of a wheel)(it takes a while)

very nice for a first attempt, but you should spray a flat clear sealer on it to tone down the gloss on the black and to keep the decales on.

I was short on paint and I was gungho to do it, black was one of the colors, so I used a sharpie. worked pretty good but it does look a bit glossy. I am going to paint the inside of the the wheels and track wheels, and if I can remember what my base color was I'll paint the running boards. and then I'll try weathering it.


The story behind the paint job is a long one. I painted the guys first thing and put them aside. By the time I got to the model painting I decided to paint it for the desert, so I pulled the guys out for it to display and decided something was wrong hmmm..... germans didn't wear grey in Africa. so I decided to turn it into a camo job for the Russian Front. (decals were on when I repainted, so it kinda looks patchy around them)

It's a pretty good model M1. From over here, it look well built. I won'yt mention the weathering since that's been done, but my advice would be to paint the tires of your next model dark grey rather than pure black. Any flat dark grey will do fine, although your own mix of black and a touch of white will do as well. Keep up the good work!

The Tamiya 251 ... one of the first kits that I built in 1/35 scale ... you bring back some memories with this one Abrams.

It's not one of Tamiya's best kits but you've done a pretty good job with you're first. The build looks to be clean without any bad seams or flash. I agree with erush that a bit of weathering will go a long way with this kit.

On the accuracy side of things, some of the area that you have painted black would have actually been the base tan colour (fenders, vision ports, wheels). But if you like it, that's what counts.

Thanks eric. now that I have an airbrush I am slowly going through my built models and weathering them. I'll put my 1/72 pz IV on here now. (its weathered)

Not bad M1!! If you did a bit of weathering on the model and the figures you could make it look really good!! Nice action scene you got going on there!!
