Ok there is a piece on the back of the tank next to the storage box, under the travel lock for the barrel...it is shaped like a shield with a cross or + symbol on it...what is this and does it have to be painted white...the cross part??

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, the cross part should be painted white. It's a German device used to aid in blackout (nighttime) driving. The driver to the rear orients on it when driving.

Horus,
the "shield" is light gray, the cross is white and the ligth housing (the raised part) is flat aluminium. This device is meant to give you the right distance from the vehichle in front of you during the night transfers. As soon as you can properly "focus" it you've reached the right distance.
