i recently started back to modeling after 20 years because of a accident that disabled me and i can't beleive how helpful modeler's are even when i do not know them and just email or telephone them.it makes me wish i never stopped.i have even gotten advice from master modeler's and it seem's like people are willing to go out of there way to offer help.and all i can say is thank you.

Yes, it's amazing and very inspiring. It's great seeing people helping each other, regardless of what the question is. Big Smile [:D]

It is really great to see so many people bend over backwards to help if they can ..I have seen answers to question that must have taken hours to research and type out in here...Then again I try and return the favor if and when I can..Hope you feeling better, not a good way to get back to the hobby but, welcome back!

Yes it is very nice seeing people taking the time to not only answer but help you with research... My hat to Bayonet Recon who answered my first message about the Abrams engine bay, and found the reference I had been looking for for over a year... (without counting the money I had spent on books and mags!!).

So, I too, try to help fellow modelers. It makes me feel good, and I'm quite proud of being part of this community.

Happy modeling..! Smile [:)]

Here's an interesting observation (based on my own experiences):

- has anyone else noticed that the modelling 'community' is VERY open and interactive when they are 'on-line', however in person most people are a bit introverted?

Could be just me, but my experience is that it's a little hard to get to know people in person, but when on-line you can't shut them up!!

(I don't know how to insert a smiley face, so just assume there is one here...)

I agree with all of you ! Smile [:)] Until I recently had my own computer, I did not have a lot of contact with other modelers. It really is a pleasure to share and exchange ideas with people who love our hobby.
(you can put a smiley face on replies by clicking on the "post new reply" icon above right of the quick reply box. This gives a choice of icons and a bigger text box to write in.Wink [;)])

Everyone that I've met online has been warm, friendly and only too happy to help, even when some of my questions seem a bit simple. But I have to agree with the comment mkish made. I have 2 good buddies who enjoy the hobby as much as I do and when we can get togeter we attend modeling shows in the UK. However I am sorry to say that not everybody is as friendly as I am in person.
I go to shows to meet other modelers and admire their good workApprove [^] !
But the last few shows I've visited people just don't want to talk to visitors to their displays. It's a real shame because chances are there're real good people who have intresting things to talk about.
Unfortunately, my job makes it impossible for me to join a club or go to regular meetings so internet and model shows are my only points of contact when my friends are'nt around. So If you're at a model show and a big hairy thing that looks like me says "Hey -that's good!" Don't be afraid I won't bite!Big Smile [:D]

Sorry to go on-I'll shut up now.

Happy modeling everyone.

to Mkish and Airbrush:

to get the smileys, reply through the 'Reply to Topic' 'button' at the bottom of the topic (just under the green field, in the 'Topic Options' field) rather than through the 'Quick Reply' field...

dj you've created a monster......lol

Now back to the subject at hand.......where I live the closest club is about 2 hours away and with work commitments that makes it out of the question for me to attend. But that wasn't always the case and when I was a member of a club, I always found that knowledge sharing existed between the members....everyone worked to improve everyone's modeling abilities. BUT....come to a contest.....now that's an entirely different animal. It was every man for himself......everyone trying to hoard their precious little secrets on how they did this or how they did that. No more contests for me thank you and as far as not belonging to a club any more....I think I do and it's just a couple of mouse clicks away.
