Want to build Hetzer, who is best?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, August 7, 2003 1:45 PM
I know of DML, Tamiya and Testors/Italiaei (sp)

I also know all are out of production, but all are also available on eBay, to varying degrees of price (the DML kit os most attractively priced, but the shipping from Hong Kong doubles the price)

From my recall, the Testors/Italian collaboration made nice kits in the 80s, but that was seen through the eyes of a young teen, was it really so?

I believe the Tamiya Hetzer is a rebox of the Italeri Hetzer for the Japanese market. The Italeri Hetzer is a decent kit, but is around 20 years old. I have a friend that builts all sorts of Hetzer conversions and I believe he uses DML kits as the basis.

I wanted to thank you Rob,

for replying to my many posts. Is there an issue with building such and old kit?

I just bought the Italeri version on E-bay for 32.00 counting shipping. I also bought a PE set for the vehicle from eduard. It looks like it will build very well.

Absolutely right about them being OOP. But, on the bright side they are still easily attainable from hobby stores. I'm not sure what you have in your area, but I have seen a couple on the shelves in mine.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

I didn't know Tamiya had a Hetzer. I have built the Italeri, it was decent. I have the early DML Hetzer and it looks to be superior in almost all respect. Even has indy tracks. Go with the DML. If you can't find one, I might be willing to trade or sell mine.

Thanks Caveman. I wish Tamiya would produce their own kit of the Hetzer, because I'm sure it would be a winner.

Do you know when the Dragon kit will be re-released? I can wait, but if it's going to be a year from now, I'll grab a kit from eBay.

DML kits are the best IMO.

Miller, you bought that Italeri kit for 32 bucks? I know the kit can be hard to find..but I just picks up an Italeri Hetzer for a project and it costs me 19 dollars.

Attack Donut,

How about these:

And for detail:

You're all set. The Italeri is a pretty quick & easy build, even with the PE. There's alot of little hooks on those things, but not bad. The only thing I thought was weird about the Italeri kit was (and maybe I lost it ) there was no jack to go on the fender? The PE kit had the clamps.

I just bought the DML Hetzer at my local hobby shop about a month ago.. If I were you, I would check around where you live and see if anyone has it.. I know the hobby shop where I bought mine had about 3 other kits, so you might get lucky
