Soviet T-62 parade colors

That emblon is usually on "Guards" unit vehicles. (Highly decorated/elite units.)

Joe, the pic I'm looking at right now show T-55s in the 1965 May 9th parade, and the following bits are white: the light guard (only halfway down on the rear sections), the top edge of that splashguard thingy that crosses the glacis under the light guard, the raised "ribs" on the front fenders, the side edges of the sponson sections (but not the front and rear "fender" sections), the rim of each road wheel, and the center hub of each road wheel.
All 44 vehicles visable in this pic are painted thusly, and all have the patriotic emblem with "CCCP" and other Russian, with the red star flag wavng on a background of laurel (or wheat, for all I know!) Those emblems were included in the Lindberg T-55 I built ages ago (not too bad for a Lindberg kit, actually! Or did they just re-release the Esci kit?), and more interestingly in a Propagteam "Russian Aces" decal set I found for a Russian I-16 Type 10 aircraft . There must be a bit of history behind that emblem, I reckon!

Anyway, hope this info helps.

Still no ideas on what's on the rear end? I'd bet there's nothing, but ya never know.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought I had seen the hubs (spindles) painted white. Couldn't remember for sure.

Need a bit of clarification from you, if you would, please. When referring to the fender rails, would that be the raised portion on the top, front of the fender, or is this another part of the fender?

Road wheel edges,fender rails,light guards and hubs were sometimes painted white.
Also their was a highly visable patiotic symbol painted on the side of the turrets.
These units were also very,very clean as far as wear is conserned.
Most likly freashly painted.

Its okay, Joe. We mustve been referring to the same thing.

I wasnt referring to the spokes. If we look at the rim from inside going out using your reference, the hub would be white at times, the spokes would be green, and the rims would be white. I call the hub the spindle since, whenever the mechanics do a number on my car, they call that part the spindle.

Thanks, but I'm really hesitant about signing up for some of these groups. Seems you end up getting a bunch of junk mail and a lot of things you really don't want. Go to Yahoo groups and sign up, then search for armyrecogntion. Another good group to look for is russian arms. The cuban T-62's would be painted in similarly to russian tanks. If you want the pictures e-mail me off line and I will send them to you.

Hate to apperar dense, but in your response you say "(except the spindle in some cases) are still painted green." Are the spindles the same as the spokes? If that is the case, would there be times when the entire wheel (not the tire) except the hub, be white? I'm looking at the wheel as three parts, 1 the hub, 2 the spindles or spokes, and three the rim.

Only the edges of the rims right before the rubber on the road wheels. Sort of like having white rings on the wheels. The rest of the wheel (except the spindle in some cases) are still painted green.

I have 3 pictures of Cuban T-62's in parade colors if anybody is interested in them. If I can find it, I also have some information on T-55's in parade colors. A good place to ask for these pictures is a Yahoo group, armyrecognition. It's where I get most of my pictures.

I've had the same problem. I only found one or two shots, but they are from the front. I thought, I had seen pictures at one time that showed the wheel hubs in white.

Were the rims white, as well as the spindles? Would that make the entire wheel, less the hubs, white?

I've been looking for similar references for a parade T-55. Can't find any good pix from the side, just all frontal shots. And I wonder if anything on the rear is trimmed in white?

Hey there Joe. As far as I could recall the rims of the road wheels were also painted white. Ive also seen photos where the wheel spindles were painted white.
