Early progress pics of my 1/35th MID PRO Tiger 1
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, August 11, 2003 6:12 AM
Well here is the first shots of my Tiger 1 MID PRO. I have been taking my time with this one since it was 45 bucks and i really want it to come out right. So here we go ...oh and yes thats a aluminum barrel on there from Jordi Rubio ($8.25) Smile [:)]

Also i really do not want to attempt Zimmerit on this model since it would be my first time and i do NOT want to mess it up...so this will be a winter washed Russian front tank...i will give the full details later on when i can remember them...lol

Hope ya like:)

You've got a good clean build going there Horus. Keep it up. If you want zimmerit on the model just get some sheet styrene and practice on it while you're building that one up and you might be proficient by the time the model's ready!! You get the practice in that way and don't ruin a model. Big Smile [:D]

Horus,
So far, so good! I like the aftermarket barrel (Rubio?), and the build looks very clean. One recommendation, since you are still in the early assembly phase: Unless you've got an engine in your kit, you might want to consider taking some sheet styrene, painting it flat black, and glueing it to the underside of you engine vent openings. It will keep your tank from looking like a toy when complete. The same is true for the hatches. If you don't have an interior, and want to leave the hatches open, stick a figure in 'em; otherwise, close the hatches. I've looked at absolutely gorgeous tanks (is gorgeous in a tank possible?), but was disappointed when I looked down a hatch or engine vent only to find bare plastic. Keep up the good work.

Sorry for the oversight.

Looking good so far HORUS. Keep it up!

By the way, I also need to practice on the whitewash. Wittman's Russia Tiger is going to need it. Here is one article that I have found...........

Looking good so far, don't forget to post the pics of the finished model. Maybe it will give me inspiration to finish off the Tiger I started.

thanks guys i will keep you all posted, one thing i did notice about this model, especially after adding the barrel is that the turret spins way to easily...lol.
I am going to have to make a shim of some sort to make the turret a bit more stable.

Hey Horus. I haven't read the replies to your post, so I hope I am not rehasshing something someone else said.

First I love the build. Very clean, and Rubio's barrels are awesome. Just make sure you get some PE Grills over the engine covers.

Second. If you are to attempt zimmerit, I would recommend in the future that you do it before you assemble the hull and turret. This makes applying the zimmerit much easier, and reduces the chance of mishandling.

Get on me on MSN, we can go over it.

Looking good, Horus!
I reckon that turret will stabilize once you get some paint on it. I wouldn't worry about shims or whatnot.

Like Moses said, some PE grills would really look good. Tamiya makes a set for 600 yen (about 5 bucks US), and should be readily available.

Horus,

Very nice job indeed! I can't wait to see your next set.

Is this the Tamiya Mid? I've got one on the way. (If it ever gets here.)

Exactly which Rubio barrel is it? It really looks nice. I put a Rubio on the pz II I did, but I don't think it was very accurate. It was stepped and I believe the original was tapered. I may go nuts on mine and put a Verlinden engine kit in it, but I like the "black-out" idea.

Have a great, and fun build.

DEAKON,
Not really it's ok but after you smooth it out and all it could end up looking oval, hence why i went with the Rubio barrel. Also watch out for the Headlight assembly, very fragile.

Good luck with it!

GRRRRR....ok disaster...i dropped the base today, and the Exaust tops, broke off and vanished into the abyss called my room!
I am very upset right now and i may just stop all together, i am no where good enought to scratch build something this small and detailed :(

Oh well it was fun while it lasted...

Hey Dave ..... you have to quit throwing your model parts on the floor !!!!!!!!!

Blame it on the cat like the rest of us modellers do.

Now which part is it you're missing ? E-mail me a scan of the page that the directions show this part on and I'll see what I have in my parts box. Might just have something that will meet your needs.

Did I mention anything about shooting the cat yet ?

Sorry to hear about the Tiger droppage, Horus! Don't lose hope; there's always a way to fix something in the world of modeling.

Build22 gave you a link for the grilles, but the actual Tamiya product name and number is:

Tiger I Early Production Photo-Etched Grille Set (35217)

Anybody know if there's any difference between the grilles on the early and mid production Tigers? I reckon they're the same.

If there are diferences, there' s still probably 14,000 other PE sets out there for the Mid-Kitty!

I've heard of this before.............

Kitties jealous of Tigers Evil [}:)]

Yes, the cat is always a good blame. Mine sits in the window and waits for me to leave a model unattended. Then, there is my 2 1/2 year old daughter Kisses [:X], who would just love to get her hands on what she calls "Baby Tank"

LOL baby tank thats great!
Anywho the parts i need are the very top of the exaust pipes, yhr ones on sorta stilts.. i can make the stilts no prop but the tops may be a bit more tricky!

I already drilled the holes to accept wire and havemade one side but no lid yet, just the posts:(

Wow! That's a first---a Sherman helping out a Tiger!! lol. Good luck, Sherman, I hope you have the part(s) he needs.

In the mean time, Horus, try doing the vacuuming with a nylon stocking over the vacuum hose trick. Sometimes, it works. But I seem to have better luck the sooner I do it.

You didn't tell me the part number of the Jordio barrel. Please, please!!

Geez Horus, those parts aren't that small! How did you lose them? What do you have on the floor in your room, 4-inch shag carpeting or something?

Having said that, the other day I did drop and lose a .50 cal machine gun off of a little 1/144 Japanese Type 90 MBT...ON A HARDWOOD FLOOR! That piece is not that small either, but it must've vaporized when it hit the floor, cuz man, it's gone.
Where could it have gone on a hardwood floor? Must've skittered out the door and off the balcony!
