? on maquette and alan kits
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, August 11, 2003 8:57 PM
I was looking through at my squadron supplement and it had some good deals on the maquette ad alan kits. I'm considering the possibilitiy of building one of their spg's like a marder. So my question is, are these kits decent or just a waste of plastic. also how does zvezda rank in your opinion. thanks for answering.

I was doing a Maquette Bison (Sig 33) and in my opinion, it's terrible Dead [xx(]

The resin pieces that came with the kit (the armor sides, engine, seat , etc) were of bad quality. Very thin and warped. Some engine parts even have large holes in them. I tried to get the warped pieces straightened by using warm water but gave up. I am at the stage where, I'm going to use plastic sheets and start from the beginning. You then have to go by what the part looks like in the diagram (which is printed too dark)

Major hull top parts have to be sawed off before resin placement even begins. The manual is a whole other story. Some parts are numbered on the instruction sheet and then stop. No trees or sprues are numbered or lettered.

The bad part of it is, I paid regular price from Squadron for it.

Someone had a Japanese Ha-Ha kit, I think this is my Russian Ha-Ha kit

Some of the Alan and Zvezda kits are made/or were made or were remakes of some other brands, not sure which ones or which brands.

I'm sure some one here in the forum would know.

The newer Alan kits I've looked at look pretty spectacular (in the box). I've heard they are a pretty good build.

Wait Laxman,

Don't give up yet. There are some good kits out there

Give this a try - it might be helpful. There are no Alan or Maquette listed but it might help

Good luck
