ive got one on the go at the moment there a great kit any idea what the Red ball headlamp looked like?
this is my very clean 6x6

would the Red Ball trucks have got dusty? or were they only driving the road in the autum/winter months?

Thanks guys!! I am glad to hear it looks muddy enough as that was what I was trying for....that wet, soupy, kind of look :)

J-Hulk... no-- the "guy" is actually my wife's uncle who drove the truck on the Red Ball Express...he gave me his truck numbers and thanks to the Archer decals recommended here, I was able to model it exactly.

I figured out something on the picture taking....I tried dragging out the ole' tripod and surprise-- no more blur :) Here is a better shot that does not include my couch :) Another nice thing about taking pics is you see things that need fixing that weren't that noticeable before....like for instance-- in this photo in front of the rear tire, the celluclay looks like dried mud as the rest looks wet-- so I was able to add some darker paint later and it looks great now.

Got to love it when a project comes together don't ya !!

Looks good Jeeves, well depicted.

As far as taking pics goes, the biggest problem is usually the lighting. You want to eliminate the use of the camera flash by pouring enough light onto the subject that it it not needed. For a backdrop, I use a sheet of blue bristle board which seems to work just fine.

You say you're bringing it to "the guy" next week...does that mean it's a gift or is "the guy" a paying customer?

well- at least for one or two models ;)

Just finished my Red Ball express 6X6.... and I have to apologize for the backdrop of this pic, but I must admit I am no photographer. How do you guys do it anyways?? Your pictures look like they were done in a studio-- nothing in the background....

I tried setting it on a few pieces of white paper, but my digital camera takes blurry pics for the most part, much to my chagrin!

Anyways-- there are some extras here-- I have a Red Ball Express sign from Custom Dioramics "US and German Military Signs WWII" kit... jerry cans and barrels from Italeri and Tamiya...and my tree that was smashed by artillery was done using the method in the December 2002 issue of FSM.

So please-- critique away!! I am bringing it to the guy next week-- anything that might need some last minute touch-ups??
