I'm making a model of one of thouse but in 1/72 and it is an Airfix kit. They call it a Sdkfz 234 which I know is wrong cause they are slightly different and were made late in the war. I think they are a cool looking vehicle. Mine has a big 75mm cannon on the top with a long barrel.

Yeah, panzeriv, at first I thought it was a 234 too, but they are quite different. Closest thing to it I could find was the 233.

Nice pics. Do you have any more?

The shape of the wheel guards and the armoured shield indicate this is based on the SdKfz 232 although the guards have probably been replaced. The short 75mm gun attached to the hull therefore points to the SdKfz 233 all right.

In 1940 a new version of the 8 wheel armoured car was requested by the German Army - the SdKfz 234. It had a monocoque hull that the suspension was attached to, not a separate chassis as per the 232 series.

The Airfix 1/72nd scale kit is supposed to be the SdKfz 234/4 - The 234 series with the 7.5cm Pak 40 AT gun. Italeri do the 4 different 234 series vehicles in 1/35th scale, while Tamiya does the the 232 in same scale.

If you can get a hold of "Ground Power" issues '6' June 2000 and '7' July 2000 (232 and 234 series respectively) you will find some excellent photo studies of the different versions
