Can't take credit for it, but it's useful

Given the production dates of the Panther, the switchover to the Dunkelgelb (dark yellow) factory paintscheme had already occurred. MAAAYBEEEE a very early prototype but that's it. BTW, the scan from the Squadron/Signal Panther in Action is attractive but not based in any fact. The mythology of dunkelgrau (Panzer Gray) being used in the final moments of the Reich are unsubstantiated and have been more or less completely debunked in light of the Thomas Jentz' exhaustive recent research.

Ahh, that's too bad...to me, the coolest possible armored vehicle would be a Tiger II, Porsche turret, no zimmerit, and painted dunkelgrau!! Man...
I might just do it anyway!
I have the old Bandai 1/24 T-II, which has so many accuracy issues, doing it dunkelgrau would be the least of them!

I think this is another one of those topics that can be debated with no definite right answer. I agree panzer gray was not the colour of choice for late war armour. In two articles I read here on the net, one stated: "In the spring of 1945, a new scheme was to be introduced with dark (panzer) grey (RAL 7021) as the base colour with red brown (also known as dark chocolate brown) (RAL 8017) and dark olive green (RAL 6003). It is unknown if it was ever implemented due to the overall state of the German Army." Another: "Recently (summer 1997) new evidence has come to light, rather interesting evidence that apparently the German High Command issued an order allowing AFV manufacturers to use a base coat of Panzer Gray (RAL 7021) if no other options were available. This is a bit of a shock, especially considering that the main point of this essay if to explain away the myth that late war German AFVs were painted Panzer Gray. Perhaps a few such vehicles were painted Panzer Gray as per this order....." So if you want to do something different and see your panther in gray, I'd say go for it.
