70-80% thinner is usually best. Depends on how dark you want the wash, ofcourse..

Hi Mohrbm,
I have just started experimenting with washes, The first attempts were nightmares!! I ended using a humbrol semi-gloss acrylic diluted 50-50 with water to seal the matt substraight. Once it was thoroughly dry I used artists oils diluted 60-70% with turps, and brushed liberally around. Deep crevasses were flooded with a full brush. The longer you leave the wash the harder to clean up though (I used an old Tea-towel) It looked great on a 1/24 stuka cockpit... yet to try on an AFV. Maybe experiment on an old kit...
Cheers,
Ian

I'd say 80 to 90% thinner for washes and 98% minimum for filters. I prefer to use oils and doing selective washes on specific areas like around nuts and bolts and into crevices/recesses always using a smal pointed and soft paintbrush...
