Japanese 97 Complete (pics)

Well you've heard me whine about it. But glad to say it's done.
Tamiya's 1/35 Japanese 97. Mostly out of box with some changes and alot of work. The suspension springs are coiled wire and the torsion bars are thin wire also.
Mounted on a small display base and I'll eventualy add a couple of figures to round it out and give it some scale.
Beach/tree line setting with a small stream running through. Dune grass is hemp rope and the sand accumulating on the treads and fenders is sand mixed with plaster and slightly tinted to match the sand or coquina on the base. Palm tree is a tree root, wrapped in wire and then tissue, painted over with white glue and then painted with acrylics.

Let me know what you think.

Mike

Nice work on the sprockets and road wheels, Mike. Camo is convincing, too. Great job all around! Looking forward to seeing it with the figures.

Nice job Mike. I like the sharpness of the camo pattern.

Having heard about the nightmares you were having with this beast night after night, after night, after night, after night, after night, after night, after week, after week, after month, after month, I kind of expected to see a molten mass of plastic on a dislay base addressed to Mr. Tamiya himself.

But I had no doubt in your abilities having seen some of your work before. Excellent job Mike !!! The camo is sharp and crisp as it should be with a hard edged camo pattern. The base really enhances this little fella and your groundwork is second to none.

Take a bow with this finish .... you certainly deserve it !!

Hey Mike, very nice job on this model. The base looks great, and the camo pattern is super. I hope to turn out some that look this good in the future. ga. retread

Nice job. The crew needs to learn how to drive that thing, looks like they are headed off the edge :P

If you can find a calendar or background photo to hold behind the base it would enhance your dio pics a lot. Remember it doesnt have to be a current year, so you can find an out of date calendar with pics CHEAP :)

cant wait to see it with the figures :)

Very nice Mike!!! I've been wondering where you've been hiding out the last week or so. Big Smile [:D] I'll say you did a fine job for as hard as you said that kit was to work with. The base is exellent too!! What did you use for the water in t he creek? Looks great!!

Thanks guys,
The camo was done using the silly putty masking technique. I'm happy with the results and have already taught a few guys locally how to do it. Gotta do some more with it. Maybe some of the other Japanese variants. Or some French armor.
The water is two part resin. The tan blob in the picture on the edge has since been removed. It was the dam for the resin so it would remain a stream rather than a mess. Add too much hardner and it will ripple a bit.
I'm going to look around for some more Japanese equipment. Seems like the kit mfrs. concentrated on the airforce rather than the army. Some of the research I did came up with some pretty interesting variants and equipment. Definately a worth while project wish list.
Muzzleflash, thanks for the tip. I was so excited about finishing this project and showing you guys, I pretty much just shot it and put it up. I'll go back and shoot some new ones now that the resin is hard and it is finished (sans figures). Use some better lighting and all that.
