Jon; I do not have references for the M60 AVLB, or the M728 (yet). The 63 Tech & Field manuals I did order generally cover WWII stuff and US Coast Defense Guns. Manuals for both the vehicles you are interested in are available. I did a quick search at AbeBooks.com for "M60 AVLB" and "M728."

The ETMs are on the 'private' side of the site. Access to the ETMs needs to be approved by your supervisor and security manager. (i.e. Commanding officer and S-2 if you're military). I presume it's this way because some of the TMs are classified, and they couldn't be arsed deciding which was which so they just lumped them all under the 'restricted' side.

Most military technical manuals are available for free download from the LOGSA site. Since they are government property, there aren't any copyright issues.

I had a look at the above, but there is no clue as to where or HOW to access the 'Publically available' material... being a non-us civvy, any other access is not likely....

I got the M88G version, just becaose i like modern german kit, but it's on my to do list (g)

M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle (CEV)  details details details! I have the FSM article, but want more! he-he!

I am aware of various mfr conversions, but these are OOP or waay too expensive!

I think that I might have a pretty good source for Tech and Field Manuals with the bookseller MilSpec Maunals in NM. Just ordered a couple of dozen CD's of old stuff for 2 to 5 dollars apiece. After getting ahold of this manual for the M88 I really want something like this for any model I work on. That bookstore had information on the Stuart Lt tanks, M4 Shermans, half-tracks and even a US Army publication on the German 88. On emails I exchanged with the bookstore he said that he had something like 33,000 publications.

Figured the US Government might not to such a good source for informanion (they sure didn't want to tell me anything while I was in the service). Now Abe Books, and this store, plus this forum will be my first three sources for information.

Here are a few copies of the M88 stuff. Just learned how to post a photo. Still have to figure out how to set up an ablum at Photobucket with a bunch of pictures.

Will be happy to scan and post anything from the M88 manual for anyone interested in specifics of the vehicle.

The problem with the LOGSA site is that to get at the TMs, you need to be approved by a couple of people. I've been waiting on my CO and BXO to approve me for the last week.

I actually just picked up the AFV Club M88A1 a few weeks ago. It's way down on the priority list to build though, but it's going to be an interesting change.

Man that brings back memories of Grafenwohr. A dragon wagon pulling a M60A2 at night. The spent fuel would ignite in the muffler producing flame "dragon wagon". Spook you the first time you saw it.

Will take the manual in to work tomorrow and scan some pages with the best drawings and load into photobucket, then figure out how to post the link here.

I tried the government site but didn't have any luck. Do they have Tech and Field manuals for WWII equipment? I tried to find the M88 manual plus TM 9-705 on M3 scout cars, FM 6-74 on the M7B1 HMC, FM 17-67 on the M4.

Has anyone used the CDROM's from MilSpecManuals in New Mexico? I have never ordered anything from them and I have never done the book on CD thing before. They are only $3 to $5 and I am considering picking up about 12 of them; half-tracks, M7, M4, M8, M10, M4 Tracks & Suspension, etc. I really prefer the printed books but they generally run $30 to $60 and are alot more difficult to fine.

Damn, that website takes forever to open. Plus, I used their online search tool, searched for 'm88' and got no hits at all...

Generous offer to share. I'd do with the above post, scan a few useful pages and put them up on a photo-hosting site.
