I usually paint my tracks according to the theater they are in. For a Late Tiger, I usually paint them in a Black/Brown/Flat Earh mixture, washed heavily with Black, Vandike Brown, and Burnt Sienna oils. Followed by a dry brush of either growned down graphite, or Enamel steel. I then use black and rust pastels to tone down thery brush.

With steel tracks I will paint them with gunmetal as the base coat. Then drybrushed with rust followed by another drybrushing of steel. To top them off, a burnishing of the track with graphite. Then once they are mounted on the kit I will dust them with pastels at the same time that I do the rest of the kit.

I have recently started just painting my tracks a rust color with the airbrush, then drybrushing with a metallic color. Washes are usually dark, but sometimes I do a yellow wash. Of course there are exceptions to this rule. If it is a desert theater, then I paint them sand yellow, then drybrush, followed with a dark wash. I really like the results I have gotten from the rust/metallic combo.

good luck
