                        I am looking at a photograph of an M4A3 Sherman Tankdozer taken during the Korean War. The bumper code left to right (front) reads 24-3E HS-102. What does the HS stand for? Attached to a headquarters unit?

                        Most likely, 24 Infantry Division, 3rd Engineer Battalion, HQ and Service Company, vehicle #102.

                        Edit: Should add that these special purpose type vehicles normally belong to the HQ companies.
