Yea thats true. Its value is all relative to how much use you get out of it. I'm hoping it turns out to be a great reference for me. I really enjoy reading about german armor and especially Tigers Smile [:)]

There are actually 2 volumes of this book. I have volume II and I think it's a great book. 422 pages, hundreds of in action photos, complete operational histories of Herr and SS abteilungs, 32 pages of high-quality, full-page color artwork. It's a beautiful book. I think I paid right around $100 for it new.

Dependng on what information you get out of it, and if it helps you then its priceless, so money well spent.

Hey! It's only money!
I recently purchased a Hunnicutt 'Sherman' book for over $140. Pssst! Don't let the wife find out!

hey thanks for the tip. Smile [:)]

I've been waiting to buy this book for a long long time. For whatever reason I would make an excuse for not buying it like "oh I'll find a good deal on it on Ebay or in some used bookstore!".

When I saw this book when out of production for the 2nd time I finally broke down and ordered it. I probably could have gotten it for less if I didn't mind waiting for awhile I suppose. Oh well... Smile [:)]

ive seen it in the local shop for £75. ive got the Panzers in combat that was £75 pound when it came out but i dont think any of them are worth that amount of money
the Ryton "Tiger " book is good as is there Panther and Sturmtiger books but i thought the one on the 250 and 251 is poor for the price

I know its late now, but for future reference always check to see if there is someone carrying publishers remainders. Ad Libris, ABE Books, and some of the other on line book sellers are good sources. I've ordered several books and in some cases if you can contact some of the book sellers from there they will keep an eye out for you and pick up a copy of what you may be looking for.

I've found and aquired several books on various subjects this way, including some very rare books for less than I have seen at rare bibliophiles or what some larger chains will order for you "when they get around to it". In many cases they get very enthusiastic about the "hunt" for these books.

Actually I did notice that this book had gone out of print. I knew it would become a rare item. I just didn't realize that its asking price could have shot up that high (or perhaps those are just wishful prices).

But like you said there is at least a little demand for the book.

I found this book for sale new thru an online source and ended up ordering shortly after I made my post.

I've read some good remarks about it. I hope its worth the price paid Smile [:)]

Kuma,
i think if you look closer on Amazon, you will see that the book is out of print.
so anyone selling it is selling a used copy or a new one that they have been sitting on.

so they can ask whatever price they like.
whether or not they ever change hands at these prices is another question.
but the high 'asking' prices indicate the supply and demand for that particular volume.

which would appear to be darn few books and at least some demand. Smile [:)]

sorry i don't have that book in my 'library'.
but i am surprised none of these 'tread guys' have seen it. Big Smile [:D]
they are notorious researchers. Wink [;)]

Does anybody have this book? Just wondering how good it is. Is it worth what places are asking for it?

I saw Amazon wanted like $200 for a new one. Now thats steep!
