I would say ambush also, but almost any pattern would probably do. You could probably just leave it in primer. This is very late war and Germany was running out of everything even paint. Have fun Mike

Heck yeah, I think a PII would look great in a little Urban Ambush!

Been doing some research on other 'armor' websites. Have found late-war camo scheme of August 1944 and of November 1944. The August 1944 order is the pattern commonly known as the "ambush" camouflage scheme, a base-coat of dark-yellow with olive-green and red-brown applied in patches. The November 1944 order has a olive-green base-coat with red-brown or dark-yellow patches. As the war progresses certain colors of paint are no longer available and factories have to adjust.

So I guess I just need to decide which combination to go with on this Panther II.
Thanks for all your advice and suggestions!

I believe the only Panther II is at Ft. Knox. I saw it in the Patton Museum last month. It was painted in overall tan. Don't know if that was the "proper" color, but that it what color it is.

As with all late war German armor, it it always safe to go with the ambush scheme. I've also seen examples with a more regular Panther style. Of course since the Panther 2 never made it to production, the scheme is entilerly up to you.

Glenn,
I would go for the very "late" war color scheme, such as a red oxide primer base with a dark green and red brown camo. exterior.
Or you can go with the standard Late Panther scheme of Dark Green, Dark Yellow, and Red Brown camo..

I doubt this will help alot, but Tony Greenland in his book Panzer Modelling Modelclass, painted his in the tri-color cammo with these weird semi-circle things all over like a late war ambush scheme. Sorry, I don't know the name of them. This might be hypothetical, but I believe I have seen them on other models as well. I would think that anything late war paintwise would be a safe bet. Good luck.

Panther II color scheme?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, September 18, 2003 7:09 PM
Traded kits. Was given a DML Panther II as a freebie!
Upon doing research I discovered Panther II never made it beyond two prototypes. One is actually at Aberdeen Proving Grounds so I've read.

Am trying to figure out what color/colors to paint this bad boy. Since it never saw the battlefield any scheme, I guess, is subject to speculation?

Any ideas? Any educated guesses? Or is this a case where anything I paint is OK since we'll never really know anyway?

Any help appreciated!
