Italeri Sturmtiger

Have a chance to pick this kit up for 50% off at my LHS, but I know it doesn't come with indy tracks. Anyone make them for this kit? Also, I read that it might be better than Tamiya's kit-true? As always, thanks for any comments.

Hard to imagine an Italeri kit being better than a Tamiya, but ya never know.
I do know there are many aftermarket trax for it, though. Friulmodel, Model Kasten, just to name two.
I believe any track for the Tiger I will work.

Yah Brian I find it hard to believe it would be better also. In the May 2002 issue Bob Colligon in his Tiger kit roundup says "its comparable, if not better than-Tamiya, though it suffers from soft detail castings and sink holes." Still a little leary, but a bargain price.

I love Italeri, so I'd say get it! Especially if it's a bargain.
Is that one zimmerit-molded?

Brian, I believe your correct, I remember that for some reason. Oh, Moses will be disappointed though. I do have an old kit that I will practice on after reading his other thread on his King Tiger. Smile [:)]

I have the Stumtiger kit, It does have indny tracks of sorts. There are several single links along with larger section. The kit also has zimmerit molded on the hull. As far as sink holes, on my kit I did not have any that comes to mind off hand.

As an employee (part time) at Stevens Intl I get to check out every kit in their inventory. I have compared Italeri's Sturmtiger to the Tamiya kit and they are about the same in quality. I have a Tamiya kit built and I am going to do the Italeri kit as well. The price of Italeri's kit is well worth it. Hope you post some pics.
Would love to see 'em!

I have to go on record and say that I hate Italeri with a passion. There is one kit and only one that I think is one to consider and that is the SturmTiger. It is only better then Tamiya's offering for one reason, and that is the molded on Zim. Like Italeri's Tiger I the molding of the zim is done well and to scale. My only problem with it is some minor inperfections with the casting as well as sink holes, like someone else spoke about.

To be honest I would just go with Tamiya, weather you want zim or not...I would go with Tamiya's kit.

Moses, what took you so long? The reason I'm looking at this kit is because it's only $14. Not bad, especially if I mess it up. Disapprove [V]

14 bucks...scoop that sucker up. Didn't know you were getting it for that price. Definately Tigerman, get the kit and have a blast. You should not have any problems with construction, but do me one favor..do not use Italeri's tracks. I personally feel they are the worst tracks the hobby has to offer...again just my opinion.

Jon that crossed my mind. I built the late Tiger I and had no problem with the tracks, easy build. Pretty sad, if I bought tracks separately, would cost more than the kit!. Actually, I picked it up for $13. Not bad. My initial reaction of the kit is good. Cheers.
