Well, I've gone ahead and ordered the damn thing anyway! At 1/20th scale, the thing is big -- big for a Soviet-style tank, anyway. The hull will be around 14" long, as the hull is estimated to be around 22' 11" long.

And maybe I'll scratch up some details for the hull. Only problem being that there are not huge numbers of photos of the thing. It may even just be a propaganda/development-mobile.

Whatever! It's on the way. Hundreds of FSM voters can't be wrong! Cool [8D]

I love my big crude Chinese kit already!

The 1/16 T-34/85?
No, not crude at all (well, no more so than the original vehicle!). In my opinion, that kit is very well done. Great tracks. One of the guys in my club got hold of an "advance copy" of that kit last April, and we have it on display at our base hobby shop.
I'm definitely gonna get one if and when Trumpeter decides to sell it.

It came in second or third, I think, in the other scale category.

Anyway, thanks for the word on the kit, guys. I wonder if their T-34/85 will be similarly crude?

Hi, folks!
As a fan of large-scale kits, I was very happy to find that kit on the shelf of one of my local hobby shops...until I opened the box to check it out!
As Mark said, it's very disappointing, indeed. Very soft detail.
So simple, in fact, that I'd wager it was originally a toy that they decided to try and market as a kit.

Well, I reckon not much else was offered in anything other than 1/35 last year...like every year!

I've seen it in a local hobby shop, but haven't seen it out of the box. IIRC, it was also listed as available in 1/35th scale but I've never been able to find it in that scale.

Hi Larry! I got a chance to check out the kit when it was first released and boy was I disappointed! As big as it is it is overly simplified. The upper hull was one massive molding with VERY soft detail. If you want to spent the next six months scratch building every detail it might not be bad as a basis, but out of the box? Yuck!

It was news to me.

As I read through my Fine Scale Modeler, I noted that one of the winners of the best AFV kit of 2003 (other scales) was a 1/20th scale Type 98. Huh?

Where has the press been on this thing? Why did a kit I've never heard of before get enough votes from other people to win an award on FSM? What rock have I been under? Tongue [:P]

Anyone out there built it? Or even seen it? Is it a nice kit? Is there anything on the web, like a Cookie Sewell review or something? I think the idea of a big scale modern vehicle is great, even something as second-tier as a Chinese MBT, seen here trying very hard to act like a Western MBT:
