My Love/Hate relationship with Modelkasten...

Those who know me..are aware that I stand by ModelKAsten 100%. I love the tracks and use them almost exclusively. Well I caught wind a few months ago that teh US distributer would be maybe going belly up, so I bought as much MK stuff as I could possibly think of at the time. I have so many Workable Panzer III/IV tracks I could corner the market. Well I never picked up Tiger II tracks, so I am left using FRuilModel's . My local dealer can't get any until this settles, so I call R&J, and they are sold out at the moment. Now don't get me wrong, I love FruilModel..but they just don't tickle me like MK. Who here has used FruilModel Tiger II tracks? Unlike MK where all you do is add teh pins to 2 sections...I have to put together 6 sectiosn with Fruil. I want my MK back!!! Sad [:(]

Sorry for ranting, but my wife doesn't like listening to my modelling problems.

Hi moses, Im the opposite as you, I stick to the Fruil tracks. they assemble very quickly. i tried using the MK tracks but those darn itty biddy tiny little pins got frustrating. The ones I built were for the Tiger I , which was link by link. Oh, and yes, Ive built 2 sets of the Tiger II Fruil tracks. I love em

LOl, I read your email Eric, I apprecite the offer..but it is a nice change using the Fruil ones. They aren't as bad..and monsterarmor is pretty much right about them going together pretty fast.

I used to dislike Friul a few years back due to a couple of bad experiences with some really nasty molds that needed hours upon hours of cleanup. Drilling, filing, drilling, filing...actually assembling them was a breeze, but the castings were just so rough!
Tried 'em again recently, and they're clean as a whistle! Beautiful! Hardly any cleanup necessary. If they are all like that now, I might just stay with Friul.

By the way, EVERYBODY here in the forums spells it F-R-U-I-L, but my boxes say F-R-I-U-L (the I comes before the U). Am I dyslexic, or are the boxes printed differently for non-Japanese markets? Maybe the Hungarians are having a joke at my expense!

Nope, you're not dyslexic. Mine say Friul, too. (And not everyone has been spelling it the other way!!)

I've only done one Friul, myself, and pretty much enjoyed them. I had to drill out the holes for the wire on both ends of every link and clean up flash on a relatively few, but it was still much faster than the Jaguar plastic set I did for my Elefant.

Small monitor?? I figured you could get a 17" over there for 10 or 15$!! You'd have to break some of that model money loose, though!! LOL

Ive had the problem with having to drill out the holes in the Fr"iu"l as well. I quit using that flemsy wire it comes with. I started using .020 brass wire. Its alot easier to puch that wire through than the supplied wire. And its stronger.

Ok new freakin development. As we all know from my post, I started building Fruil's Tiger II Tracks with Drive Sprockets. Well after doing some more research on my possible camo schemes, I realize I am using the wrong damn tracks as well as the wronf Drive Sprockets. The Drive Sprocket that is inclded in teh kit as well as the tracks are meant for the first two King Tiger Prototypes, not the Porche Turret that saw service. So lucky me, I call up R&J again and they have the MK tracks and I will get them in a few days. So I spent the last 2 days putting together tracks I will probably never use. OH well..it was fun Big Smile [:D]

Moses you got king tiger tracks you ain't gonna use? I got a dragon jagdtiger that's partly assembled, but sanding all those track links has caused me to become disinterested in finishing it right now (actually it's the project that hangs around while I do the projects I really wanna do). Are the king tiger and jagdtiger tracks the same? If they are, do ya wanna unload a set? Tongue [:P]

Moses, they'll work for Porsche Jagdtigers, too. Are they product #ATL-22? The ones with one solid link, then one made of 4 pieces, three of which are just little sticks?
If so, they are applicable to the first 2 Tiger II prototypes AND Porsche-suspensioned Jagdtigers. I'm not entirely sure about Henschel-suspensioned Jagdtigers, however.
