Bill, treat yourself to an early Christmas present and buy all three. If you don't do that, get the one your debating on the most, because if you don't, you'll regret it down the road. We've all been there.

This is just me, but I would always go with the vehicle that was actually produced and had a solid combat record. This gives you more modeling possibilities and photographic sources to refer to.

An E-100 might be fun though if you want to build a diorama of that famous photo of the unfinished vehicle with the amused GI standing in it. Tongue [:P]

Well, myself I have both :) Just picked up the E-100 from E-bay 33$ that was with shipping. I enjoy building not your everyday kits, so the E-100 & Maus are the pick for me.

okay, in my never ending quest to please all of you guys, I think I'll get the E-100 and the Firefly, if I can still find them. (The Tiger tracks I was going to buy have evaporated!!! Now I can't find either the MK's or the Friul's! Sad [:(])

Thanks for all your input. Never expected this thread to be as hot as it got!

Hey Bill, which Eric were you refering to awhile back about the Otto Carius Mid....? There are at least three of us that I know of. [:0] LOL I'm not sure I know the answer, because I don't have either kit, but I believe the Otto Carius Mid costs more. I'm sure I read something about that in an old thread. Glad to see your easily influenced by all of us. LOL

The best thing about the Maus or the E-100.. Since they weren't a production piece, you have all the artistic license you want, and everyone won't be critisizing you that your olive drab doesn't look right..
My saying is, "if you can't decide, go for the German ride".. I would go for the E100 myself (my .02)

Nor can they criticize your gray Berlin Ambush!

The downside of never really getting it wrong, though, is that you're also never really getting it right.

When I really want to build fantasy vehicles, I just go whole hog and build a Warhammer 40k Land Raider, or an Ork Trukk. Tongue [:P]

But seriously, ladies and gentlemen, I think it might be fun to build that Maus with the counterweight turret you see in the pictures. ADV/Azimut makes an aftermarket piece for it, or you can scratch one up. It saw service, in a manner of speaking! Apparently it actually worked decently well as a vehicle.

Well, there really is no "wrong" or "right" at all, is there?
Thus, no downsides!
Actually, with Warhammer, you do have some references, no? (Sorry, I'm not that familiar with it!) Thus, if you painted your 40k Land Raider a "wrong" color, isn't it possible you'd be criticized by a fellow "purist" Warhammerer?
No such problem with a "what if" E-100!
The most guff you can get is "I don't think it would have been painted like that," to which you can simply reply, "well, I think it would have!"

Anyway, no rights and wrongs here, just do what ya like!
That Maus does sound interesting, Larry. Got that kit in the closet, waiting to take its place next to my E!

Eric/Tigerman, Eric/Erock mentioned the Otto Carius tank in the post above mine. I was just wondering what the difference in the kits is between the two mids, since the Otto Carius is considerably more than the regular mid. I think I read that the only difference is the sprue with the two new figures on it. If true, it seems like a lot for two 1/35 figures. (Maybe they had to pay Otto Carius royalties!! LOL)

Brian, the only problem with Wermach46 stuff is what you said about being limited only by my imagination. Sometimes I think that's a VERY short step!! LOL

I am meeting the guy with the models at the model club meeting tonight. I asked him to bring the E-100 and the Firefly. I'm excited about both of them. They will both be fun builds.

And Robert, it's a Vc, sorry.

Nothing to be sorry about Bill ..... the Vc is an excellent build too.

It's just that the Ic is a little harder to get ahold of now.

There's the key word: FUN!
Have a blast with 'em!

Yeah, the imagination part of it is why it took me 5 months to finish my E-100. I have a notebook full of sketches, trying to come up with a camo pattern I liked. I finally went with my first impression, the gray Berlin Ambush! Then I did all the research I could on late war German armor, and tried to use my limited imagination to take it logically into 1946. Sure, it was fun, but it took a while!
And I ended up with a model that is plausible, while at the same time completely unique, and "all mine!" Now, if I only had the talent to scratchbuild the whole thing...

There are a thousand space marine chapters, each of a thousand men (or more). They have shown paint schemes for about thirty of the chapters, forty tops. They actually encourage you to make up your own chapters and ther color schemes.

OTOH, I'd think that you would have to extrapolate some kind of latewar color scheme for the E-100 -- which it turns out you did, and quite a handsome job it is too. If you paint it purple, though, people might object. A purple land raider would be welcomes right into the fold in 40k! Smile [:)]

Now that I think of it, they weren't even going to use the E's for combat though, were they? I thought they were test beds for AFV development, kinda like concept cars. Wasn't the Maus the one they were actually designing to roll into combat? Was there a special color scheme for development vehicles?

All this said, I actually built up the Dragon Maus, as my wife gave it to me for Christmas ("here's your Nazi tank, dear, to celebrate the Prince of Peace's birthday." Tongue [:P]) I painted it in the standard dunkelgelb, but with big blobs of red-brown and olive-green. No ambush spots. A really fun kit, and, unlike many other kind of frustrating expeiences I had with DML, a fairly easy build-up too..

Ouch, Larry. Sometimes women really know how to turn the screws!

How about this as a paint scheme for the e-100: WWI Lozenge pattern, after all, it was good enough for the planes...

Larry, this Warhammer thing sounds pretty interesting. I've been picking up snippets of info here and there. Might hafta check it out!

I like your airport firetruck idea for the E!

Who knows what they really had planned for the E? Everything I've read about it says it was to be the largest of the E series of vehicles (E-10, E-25, E-50, E-75, and E-100), all based on similar designs and parts to facilitate longevity in the field.

I could be wrong, but I thought it was the Maus that was going to be a testbed for various systems, such as the turret for the E-100.

Hmmm...a purple E-100...still a few kits down at the local hobby shop...hmmmm.....

Hey Brian;

E's got a friend, E does!!

I picked up the E-100 and the Firefly Vc (both still shrinkwrapped) last night. Now if I can come up with some sort of "decoration" for the E!! LOL (Don't think it will be lime green!) But they will both have to wait until the Tiger is finito! He has a Maus, too. The shrinkwrap was off that one and I took a bit of a look at the kit. I couldn't believe how huge the track links are for that puppy! My birthday is coming up later this month, maybe my wife will get that one for me!! Doesn't look like two many parts (certainly no little delicate parts) in it.

Have a fun weekend;

Good choice, Bill! Welcome to the Brotherhood of the E!
OOB, the E's a pretty straightforward build. No fit problems or anything like that. You do get a front-row ticket to Sinkhole Fest 2003 with the trax, though.
I got all tangled up in the Wermacht '46 thing, and that's when things got difficult!
Have fun with both the kits, and try to swing that Maus, too!

Question, Brian...To swing the Maus, do I have to do it by holding the tail!! Or I guess maybe that should be the barrel! LOL

You'll like the Firefly Bill ...... more parts in the tracks alone than there are in the E-100 and Maus combined.

Not that I'm trying to scare you or anything.

You're a funny, funny man, Bill!
You know what I meant!

Does make me think of a possible scene from the film "Hulk: 1946," though!*

*This vague reference requires at least one viewing of this past summer's blockbuster smash movie, "The Hulk."

LOL, Brian. I haven't seen the new film yet. Sounds like I should. I think I'm going to take the kids to a movie over the weekend. Maybe the it's still playing somewhere. (Doubt it, though). Maybe you should submit a movie idea for the 1946 version to the producers!! lol All we forum members could get together and provide the Wermacht'46 models for the Hulk to toss around!! What a great idea!! LOL

Robert, thanks. Don't worry, the indy tracks don't scare me. I have less trouble (so far) with those than with a lot of the stuff I put myself (and these models) through! You ought to see the inner braces for the photoetch shurtzen brackets I have for my 1/72 panzer IV. You can barely see them on the fret!
Going to have to crank up the ol' magnifiers for them. I have NO idea how I'm going to hold onto them to place them in the brackets. Just bending the brackets was bad enough!! (I also haven't worked on them for a VERY long time). I'm just excited to finally have my second Sherman kit!

Have a terrific day;

Hmmm, maybe I should consider putting one of the Leopolds on my birthday wish list....nah, guess not, I'm already going to put an etchmate on it. In fact, I'd better go in and take off about half the kits I mentioned!! My wife about turned green when I showed it to her. I told her that this year I was trying to so overwhelm her with choices that she couldn't possibly get all of it!!! I think that helped a bit. But she still is acting kind of moody about it! I can't imagine why!! LOL

I know, I know, but can't push my luck too far. Am also hoping for an etch-mate!! And a new watch. I never even know what time it is anymore

I went home for lunch and didn't even have time to pull the shrink wrap off either kit Sad [:(] ! I'm getting off a little early tonight. Tonight for sure! Although, I need to get back to work on the Tiger and get the braces glued under the side skirts. Wish I dared to solder them, but not sure how I'd keep them at 90 degrees. Something to think about, though.

Have a great weekend, all of you;
