Finally the Marder III is done
Posted by erush on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 9:30 PM
Well I finally finished up the Marder III guys and gals. Please let me know what y'all think, any suggestions you might have or criticisms y'all might have.

Here's a quick run down. Out of the box Tamiya Marder III w/excepton of a Jordi Rubio barrel. Tamiya acrylics for the base camo scheme, used Windsor Newton oil washes, pastels and Future with Tamiya Flat Base for the dull coat. Archer dry transfers for the markings. I used Vellejo paints for the scratches and some of the drybrushing and oils for the rest of the drybrushing.

This Marder had a very smart crew who was adept at dodging into thickets and woods to avoid air attacks and to ambush those pesky Russians. It was rode hard and put up wet to put it simply. Big Smile [:D]

Sorry for the picture quality, I still don't have a good photo area set up with good lighting.

Look at this thing .... all scratched up. Half the paint is missing !!!

No self respecting Wehrmacht soldier would drive around in this. Would you?

Oh ... hold it ... this is Eric's isn't it .... yes... you would drive around in this with a couple of old hound dogs sitting next to you.

Great job my friend .... this sorry old girl does indeed look like she's been ridden hard.

I've had the pleasure of following along on this build since very early in it's existence, and I must say you have done her justice

Thanks for sharing with us and allowing me the opportunity to follow it through its life.

How many completed armour kits is this now Eric?
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Excellent job Eric. I really dig the weathering you've done, far better than anything I could do. Two questions: what are those poles for on the rear deck (some canopy?). Second are you going to add a crew?

Sherm Thanks man, the dawgs ride in the basket Wink [;)] and that makes 1 completed armor kit for me Big Smile [:D]

Thanks also Teddy

and Tigerman, thanks for the compliments! The poles are in fact for a tarp and eventually I'll add the kit figures (that could take me a year probably) I think I'm going to dig out a camo net I have somewhere to put across the top and I'll eventually do a base for it. I'm just pleased to have actually finished building a kit for the first time in years and to try out all the new techniques involved in building armor kits. I like makin 'em dirty!! Big Smile [:D]

Great job eric. Watching this baby progress has been great. The weathering looks great as well as the paint chipping. That Vallejo Black Grey works wonders Wink [;)]. Very nice job. Now make a nice base for that thing and move on to that 1/16th Tiger I of yours Big Smile [:D]

Great job!!

Cheers

Just how I like 'em, Eric, nice and dirty.

Now that is a pretty piece of modeling.
I like it. Having seen some of the progression of this build I am very impressed with the finished project. The wear patterns on the deck are very well done and show this was a busy crew.
This is a nice showpiece of working german armor.

Very nice Erush!! The scratches are very convincing, especially on the wheels. Looks like that thing has been around the block once or twice.

Well done, Eric!
The chipping and scratches really bring it to life. You really captured a natural look with your technique.

Great job Erush !

You beat the tar out of that thing. Time to trade that in for a new one.

Awesome

Eric,
What a nice job! Great paint and weathering job. And the build is really clean.
It's actually refreshing to see something other than a Tiger or Sherman (sorry, Robert) on this forum.

Hey Erush, excellent job on that beast. Man, it looks like that thing rolled right off the Eastern front! The wear and tear on the paint is outstanding. I'm anxious to see what you
do with your Tiger now. Oh, that's right, it is Tiger time, isn't it? Now it's time to rock!

Thanks for the compliments everyone!!! Big Smile [:D]

Rickyinc63 for the scratches I used Vellejo Gray Black paint ( yes, thanks Moses for the tip on that!! ) and a small pointed 20/0 paint brush and just painstakingly painted all the little scratches on there. The trick is to NOT be symetrical or create a pattern which is easy to do. I found the best way to be random was to jump from one area to another and also to take breaks! I spent as much time doing all those scratches as I did building the thing probably Tongue [:P]

Yeah Okieboy and Wildwilliam the 1/16 Tiger will be next on the desk but I've got to do some serious rearranging to make room to work on that beast!!!

Hulk don't worry, It'll be a week or 2 before I can get started on it so you won't be that far behind Big Smile [:D]

And to everyone, we have one of the best tools for model building right here at our fingertips because I had a lot of help from some of our fellow forum members. I want to thank Moses, Shermanfreak and Renarts because they gave me a lot of tips and suggestions as I was progressing on this. I will be glad to help out anyone myself if you care to hear what I have to say on anything. This is a great forum with lots of talented people who will help you at the drop of a hat!!! Big Smile [:D]

Wow!

It is really nice to see something other than MBT's and the detail is absolutely awesome. It is always easy to do tanks with mud, etc., but the detailing in scratches, the highlights and weathering make for a very realistic model!

Great job!

I forgot to ask, did you use any aftermarket parts? Especially the tracks or are these out of the box?

I'm gobsmacked! The paint (or rather, lack thereof) is absolutly brilliant!

I.. I think I'm in love!

Its an interesting looking vehicle.. It kinda reminds me of the tank in the ol Wacky races cartoons.. ALthough I'm thinking the Russians on the front might not have seen the funny side of things.

Very Nice Job Erush!

Your pictures will look better if you add a solid background behind your model. The bright colors behind the model distract from your beautiful marder :) Even just holding a piece of cardboard in place would make a big difference and help you out.

Thanks for sharing,

Great looking build there Eric. The weathering is probally the best that I have seen since getting into this again. Can almost hear the engine cooling down from being rode that hard.
