wierd tiger

there was this old black and white war movie, i forget what its called, but it was about a cowardly commander, who eventually ends up getting shot by his own men. But anyways, the Americans had all thier APc's and M5 light tanks there. then u see the German armour etc - Its exactly the same as the Americans - Same Half Track, but with German markings, same tank, but with german markings. Was sed to be made in the 50's - think there would of been alot of ww2 tanks then.

About that link, i wouldn't mind seeing it either...i know what toy i'll be getting if i ever win the lottery.

As far as I know, there is only 1 Tiger left that is in running condition. I don't think that the owners would let it get blown up in a movie. ;)
I would love the link to that website where they have Tigers for sale. I think it would be cool to take a look at them. =)

Surfing lastnightand found about half dozen Tiger tanks for sale in Yugoslavia, seller bought them from a former soviet base. Russians maybe used them for training? Anybody here know? Might make interesting subject matter.

As far as I know, there are only a few (very few) real tigers left. One is in the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen Md (and as we speak, it is off getting refurbished), and the other I know of is in the Bovington museum in England. I'm sure our Red brothers have a couple too. As for the movie tigers, well, you use what you can get. They were T-34's converted to look like tigers, and not bad if you ask me. The only true giveaway was the road wheels and how close to the front of the hull the turret is. It's more forward than centered on the hull. It's kind of like the OPFOR armor out in Fort Irwin Ca. They are US armor made up to look like soviet armor. Lots of superficial structure. Hope this helps. Chris.

The movies "The Big Red One" (Audie Murphy) and Raid on Rommel (Richard Burton) used M48 Patton tanks without an attempt to make them look correct. They just slapped on grey paint and black crosses .

I noticed the running gear on the Tiger was wrong, but I thought it was just because real Tiger gears weren't available. That same tiger also showed up on The History channel on one of their "heavy metal" shows.

Tiger, real Tigers from the '40s are rare and therefore film makers resort to conversions of existing tanks (or other AFVs) for their productions, particularly if the vehicles end up being blown apart... The T34 is a common culprit as it has been producted in huge numbers and was (still is) easy to obtain from various countries... Another common sight is the M24 Chaffee that has been playing roles of German 'Panzers' in various movies.

The 'Tiger' in Kelly's Heroes is also a T-34, by the way....
