dragon's kursk panther
Posted by nmayhew on Friday, October 3, 2003 5:07 AM
hi guysSmile [:)],
i've got dragon's kursk panther (1/35), which is decalled for a tank from the 52nd battalion, 39th panzer regiment...so far so goodTongue [:P]...
can anyone tell me which division this was in? i was under the impression that the new panthers were given to the SS divisions, right? was this tank therefore with Das Reich, Liebstandarte or Totenkopf??
from memory the usual Operation Citadel marks (upturned greek 'pie' sign in white) sre not on the decal sheet. i wa wondering why?
many thanks and have a good weekend all,
regards,
nick
Kind regards, Nicholas

IIRC, Das Reich panthers didn't have the Kursk markings. There has been an ongoing discussion on the Axis board at www.missing-lynx.com I recommend going there and searching for your answer.

IIRC from my reading the Grossdeutschland Division was the only one with Panthers at Kursk and it was an Army Regiment

Did a quick search on the net and 52nd battalion, 39th regiment was indeed part of Grossdeutchland. Apparently they were the first to have Panthers (along with the 51st) and on the evening of the first day of operations only 40 of the 192 were still serviceable.
