For those who dont remeber i want to re creat the tank my grandfather drove in WWII. Here is the information i got form my uncle.

grandfather was tank commander of a 4 man crew from 1 july 1944 to 5 May 1945. He was in the 4th armoured division n tranferred to the newly formed 16th armoured division in April 1945 in Pilsen chechslovakia n was ther until dec 1945. he was also wounded in the battle of the bulge. Hewas in the entire battle of the bulgeas a spearhead of the 4th armoured division
If anyone would know any information about these tanks such as markings, or special features or camo could you let me know.
Thanks
IF you can't beat them then they are not tied down properly

Ok Awasoda .... just based on the 4th A.D. ..... I've found pics of everything from M4A3 (75) through M4A3 (76) E8 with a smattering of M4A1's thrown in just to confuse the issue. Toss in a few Jumbo's and you see where the problems begin.

The 4th ... like all divisions was composed of many different units. In this case your Grandpa probably belonged to the 8th, 35th or 37th Tank Battalions. Unfortunately, trying to pin down which Sherman or what his markings were would require a bit more research on your part.

As far as camo goes .... O.D. seems to be the most common in the pics that I've looked at with a little whitewash thrown in for good measure.

Now an interesting build you may want to consider is Colonel Abrams M4A3 E8 who was probably one of the more famous members of the 4th. Or another option would be the Jumbo with the chalk markings "First in Bastogne".

I'm sure whatever you decide to do, your Grandpa would appreciate the effort.

If your grandfather was on a 4 man crew, that would be an M5A1 Stuart. However, Shermans sometimes (NOT often) ran a crew minus the bow gunner. Too bad you can't find a photo of your grand dad with his crew and / or tank!
By the way, my grandfather made turret seats for Stuarts (I still have one of them), and such. An uncle died in the hedgerows. He was also in a Sherman. Yet another uncle was a bomardier in the 8th AAF. He fell somewhere over Germany. Of six uncles that went to war in our family two didn't come back (and one wasn't 'all there' afterward).

Anyhooo.. 4 man crew? Probably a Stuart on endless recon and run... with a crew hoping to get an M24!
